It’s a feeling hard to explain to someone without kids, as the OCR image humorously points out, but it’s a daily reality. Toddlers naturally explore their environment by tasting and touching everything, which means what ends up near their mouths is often far from sanitary. One important lesson I’ve learned is to create safe zones and clearly communicate boundaries to older siblings and relatives about what’s safe for kids to handle. However, despite all efforts, those moments of surprise happen — when you suddenly realize something questionable just touched their lips, and you’re left wondering how to explain the strange taste or texture. From snack time to playtime, vigilance is key. This means regularly sanitizing toys, keeping an eye on what snacks are given, and teaching toddlers to wash their hands. It’s also helpful to accept that some messes and surprises are part of the experience, and reacting with humor rather than frustration can make parenting less stressful. So as summer approaches, here’s a friendly reminder from someone who’s been there: keeping track of what goes in, on, or near your kids’ mouths is a full-time job, and you’re definitely not alone in feeling that mix of exhaustion and amusement. Parenting is full of unpredictable moments, but sharing these relatable experiences helps us all feel a little less isolated in our challenges.
