To anyone in recovery,
You are not alone in this. Recovery is a journey made up of courage, setbacks, growth, and daily choices, and none of it has to be done by yourself. Whether today feels strong or heavy, your effort still counts.
Lean into support. Reach out when things feel uncomfortable. Celebrate the small wins and give yourself grace on the hard days. Healing happens when we allow ourselves to be honest, connected, and open to help.
It’s okay to be vulnerable. It’s okay to ask for support. Keep showing up, keep choosing yourself, and keep moving forward one day, one step, one moment at a time. 💜
Dr Brenda Combs, EdD
Recovery is rarely a straightforward path—it’s filled with highs and lows that challenge not only our resolve but our emotional well-being. From personal experience, I've found that acknowledging these fluctuations openly can be incredibly healing. On days when recovery feels particularly heavy, leaning into support systems such as trusted friends, support groups, or professional counselors can provide much-needed relief and perspective. Small wins, like choosing to reach out for help or maintaining a positive mindset despite setbacks, are vital milestones that build momentum. Celebrating these moments, no matter how minor they seem, fosters a sense of achievement and boosts confidence. Likewise, giving yourself grace on difficult days prevents the spiraling negative self-talk that can undermine progress. Healing also involves embracing vulnerability—not as a weakness, but as a courageous step toward genuine connection and acceptance. It means allowing yourself to ask for help and to be honest about your struggles. Taking recovery one moment at a time helps avoid overwhelm and keeps you grounded in the present. Ultimately, recovery is a shared human experience. You are not alone in this journey. Others have walked the path before you and offer a wealth of empathy and encouragement. Together, through openness and support, healing can truly happen one day at a time.
