Not Very Apeel-ing, Is It? 🤔

Some of these grocery stores have no problem selling poison to us, even in the form of fruit and vegetables! 🍎🥒🍓🥦
How familiar are you with the company Apeel?
The purpose of Apeel is to reduce food waste by extending the shelf life of fresh produce using a plant-based, edible coating.
This invisible layer slows down the processes that cause fruits and vegetables to spoil—mainly moisture loss and oxidation—so food stays fresh longer without the need for plastic packaging or refrigeration.
Did anybody ask for this? 👀 Beuller...?
S/N: It was funded by Bill Gates... So there's that 💁🏾♂️💁🏾♂️💁🏾♂️ (Google the company)
My issue is this: food is naturally supposed to break down and spoil after it becomes ripe if not eaten right away. Why would anyone mess with the natural process??
I don't trust it, but that's just my opinion on it.
What are your thoughts? 🤔💭

Apeel is a company that aims to tackle food waste through its innovative technology that creates an edible coating for fruits and vegetables. This coating extends the shelf life of produce by slowing down spoilage processes such as moisture loss and oxidation. It attracts attention for its potential to reduce plastic waste by creating a natural barrier that allows fruits and vegetables to stay fresh longer without refrigeration. However, the introduction of such technologies raises questions about the impacts on natural food processes. Proponents argue that extending shelf life means less food waste and more accessibility to fresh produce. Critics, however, worry that interfering with the natural decay process can potentially lead to issues with food safety and the integrity of organic food systems. Many consumers want reassurance about what they're eating and are cautious regarding innovations funded by large figures in the tech world, such as Bill Gates. There is a growing demand for transparency in food labeling and sourcing, as consumers seek to understand the implications of such treatments on their health. Additional discussions have emerged around the environmental impacts of these coatings, questioning whether they contribute positively to sustainability or further complicate the food supply chain. As you consider your own grocery purchases and the produce you consume, it’s essential to weigh the benefits of reduced waste against the possible long-term consequences of these technological advancements on health and the environment. Ultimately, the conversation regarding Apeel is evolving, and consumers are encouraged to research and share their opinions on these coatings, signifying a broader trend towards informed food choices.
