Making stickers with my new Silhouette! ✨
I’ve been using my new Silhouette Portrait 4 to make stickers! I’ve been loving it. Here’s the whole process I use plus the materials:
➻ I draw up my design in Procreate on my iPad. You can use pre-drawn designs as well. I’ve done this for printing stickers for my water bottle and etc. But usually, I use my own art. Once I have the designs I want to use, I organize them on a canvas on Procreate to create the sticker sheet then remove the background. I save as a PNG file and send it over to my computer that has Silhouette Studio on it.
➻ I open up my file in Silhouette Studio. I hate how when you upload a PNG file it adds auto cut lines. You can turn this off by going to edit, preferences, and import. Under import there is a setting to turn this off. I have it off. Once it’s uploaded, I click on page set up and add the registration marks.
**I have a PixScan mat but I hate it! I feel like the cuts always come out inaccurate with it no matter how many times you calibrate cuts or your phone camera. I prefer print and cut as I get insanely accurate cuts every time.** Once I have my registration marks added and the design fits on the page nicely, I print it.
➻ Once it’s printed, I let the ink dry and then place laminate over page. This isn’t required but I like how it looks and it makes the stickers more durable. I either use a high gloss laminate or holographic. Once I lay it on I rub it down with a credit card to remove any air bubbles.
➻ I go back to Silhouette Studio to set up my cuts. I do this by selecting trace, I select the area I want to trace and mess with the threshold until it’s just right and then select “trace outer edge” since I just want the shape of the sticker cut. I like to offset my edges sometimes depending on the sticker. I do this by clicking offset, offsetting it by .35, and then I am usually satisfied.
➻ I load the stickers on to the mat (I use a light tack mat as the regular ones rip or curl my paper too easily), load it in to the machine, and send the job from Silhouette Studio.
➻ Once it’s finished cutting, I remove the excess paper, gently pull them off the mat with a flat weeding tool, and then all finished! Perfectly cute stickers!
