What i eat in a day as a college student
I recently posted tips on how to prioritize self care as a student and one of them was eating on time and staying hydrated. Here’s what I eat on the perfect day.
🥣 Breakfast: sandwich and refresher or coffee
🥣 Lunch: frozen meal (usually fasted thing I can have between classes)
🥣 Dinner: Hefty dinner from the cafe
It’s no secret that college life is a whirlwind! Between classes, studying, and social activities, finding time for balanced, nutritious meals can feel like mission impossible. I totally get it – my 'what I eat in a day' often revolves around convenience, like that quick ham and provolone sandwich or a frozen meal. But over time, I’ve picked up some hacks to make these quick bites work harder for my body and mind, helping me stay 'in the zone' for focus and energy, even when I'm super busy. Revamping Breakfast: My go-to is usually a simple sandwich and a coffee or refresher. To make this a more 'zone-friendly' start, I try to: Choose Whole Grains: Opt for whole wheat bread for more fiber to keep you full longer. Add Produce: A banana, an apple, or a handful of berries can easily turn a basic breakfast into a more complete meal. Protein Boost: If your sandwich is just cheese, consider adding an egg or some turkey for extra protein. Smart Lunch Solutions: Frozen meals are a lifesaver when you’re rushing between lectures, and I often grab options like chicken tikka masala or butter chicken. To make these more balanced: Check Labels: Look for options with higher protein and fiber, and lower sodium/saturated fat if possible. Veggie Power-Up: Add a side salad (even a pre-packaged one!) or some baby carrots. Frozen veggies are also great – a quick microwave steam can add a lot of nutrients. Portion Control: Sometimes these meals come in larger portions than needed. Consider saving half for a snack later or sharing if you can. Navigating Dinner at the Cafe: Campus cafes can be tricky, but you can still make smart choices. If you’re like me and enjoy a hearty dinner, perhaps with some macaroni and cheese and fried chicken, here are some thoughts: Load Up on Veggies: Always seek out a salad bar or vegetable side options. Fill half your plate with greens or roasted vegetables. Lean Protein: If 'fried chicken' is on the menu, see if there's a grilled chicken or baked fish option. If not, balance it with plenty of non-starchy vegetables. Mindful Carbs: Macaroni and cheese is delicious, but try to balance it with protein and fiber. Maybe have a smaller portion and add a side of beans or a lean protein option. General Tips for Staying 'In the Zone' with College Eating: Hydration is Key: Just like I mentioned in my self-care tips, drinking enough water throughout the day is crucial for energy and focus. Keep a reusable water bottle handy. Snack Smart: Instead of waiting until you’re starving, have healthy snacks on hand. Think nuts, seeds, string cheese, Greek yogurt, or fruit. These keep your blood sugar stable and prevent overeating. Mini Meal Prep: Even 15 minutes on a Sunday can make a difference. Chop some veggies for the week, portion out some nuts, or boil a few eggs. This makes grab-and-go healthier options much easier. Don't Strive for Perfection: It's college! There will be late-night study snacks and cafeteria splurges. The goal is consistency and making mostly good choices, not being perfect all the time. Every little bit helps your energy levels and overall well-being.
