THE UNHINGED BIOGRAPHY OF DR. FRANKLIN EDWARD SHOEMAKER

aka DR. RAD ™️ — THE ATTACHMENT CODE BREAKER ™️

“I didn’t choose the trauma life. The trauma life chose me… then I body-slammed it into submission.”

Listen up, you beautiful chaos gremlins of the internet. This isn’t your grandma’s dusty therapist bio. This is the raw, unfiltered, straight-from-the-trenches war journal of the man who looked Reactive Attachment Disorder dead in its cold, manipulative little eyes and said, “Not today, Satan’s favorite neurological glitch.”

Grew up in the heartland grit of South Central Ohio — that perfect storm of cornfields, small-town steel mills, and the kind of stubborn resilience that only Midwestern winters and hard-working families can forge. His dad — a steelworker, Army vet, and human forklift — taught him how to weld broken things back together with nothing but fire and stubbornness. His mom — a polio-surviving, self-reliant artist who could paint beauty out of scrap metal and sheer willpower — showed him that even when your body tries to betray you, your spirit can still throw hands with destiny. Those two forged the original trauma-proof blueprint that would later become the SNAPPED → SHIFTED → SOLID empire.

Fast-forward to 1992. While the rest of the world was busy doing whatever normies did in the 90s (probably listening to grunge and pretending the internet wasn’t about to eat society alive), Franklin dove headfirst into the belly of the beast: the child welfare system. Thirty-three straight years of frontline combat. He’s seen it all — the kids who bite, the kids who bolt, the kids who stare through you like you’re already dead to them. He didn’t just counsel them. He cracked their codes.

Then came the ultimate plot twist: he and his warrior wife Tonya adopted a daughter with full-blown RAD and two sons riding shotgun with their own attachment war stories. That’s right — the man didn’t just study the monster. He brought it home, looked it in the eye every single day at the dinner table, and decided, “We’re gonna love this thing until it learns how to love back.” Most people would’ve tapped out. Dr. RAD? He turned the family living room into a laboratory of radical redemption.

While the so-called “experts” were still writing polite little papers about “challenging behaviors,” Franklin was in the trenches earning his PhD, his LMHC-QS, his TF-CBT certification, his Adoption Competency credentials, and a Master’s in Biblical Counseling — because why stop at science when you can also bring the Living Word into the fight? His dissertation? A flamethrower disguised as academic research: How Child Maltreatment Fuels Attachment Difficulties in Children Ages 5 and Older. Translation: he reverse-engineered the exact trauma loops the system keeps missing.

Out of that fire came the gospel according to Dr. RAD: the SNAPPED → SHIFTED → SOLID framework.

SNAPPED — when the kid (or the adult) is in full survival apocalypse mode.

SHIFTED — when the therapeutic parent steps in and starts rewiring the broken code.

SOLID — when secure attachment in Christ becomes the new operating system and the orphan heart finally gets evicted.

He wrote the books. He dropped the bangers. Breaking the Attachment Code. The entire SNAPPED → SHIFTED → SOLID series. PLANTS, PILLS AND THE LIVING WORD (because sometimes Jesus and a good adaptogen hit different). Even Dr. RAD Cracks the Radical Left Code — because once you learn to decode childhood trauma, you start seeing the same engineered perceptual loops playing out in culture, media, and politics like a bad acid trip on repeat.

Today he runs Elevating Trauma to Trust (Mr. Ed’s Circle of Trust Inc) in Lakeland, Florida — a cinematic war room for families, clinicians, and anyone brave enough to stop managing symptoms and start cracking codes. He’s on Substack dropping weekly truth grenades. He’s on Amazon with an entire author store that looks like a trauma-healing armory. And he’s still out here, 33+ years deep, refusing to soften the message.

This isn’t a man who “helps families.”

This is the Attachment Code Breaker who walked through the valley of the shadow of RAD, took notes in blood and fire, then came back swinging a Bible in one hand and a research paper in the other, screaming, “I KNOW WHAT BROKE YOU — AND I KNOW HOW TO FIX IT!”

Dr. Franklin Edward Shoemaker didn’t just survive the system.

He hacked it.

He weaponized it.

He turned it into a movement.

And if you’re reading this and your kid is SNAPPED…

your marriage is circling the drain…

your own orphan heart is still running the show…

Good.

You found the right lunatic.

Welcome to the Circle of Trust.

Now let’s get you SHIFTED… and SOLID.

Dr. RAD ™️ — still unhinged. Still undefeated. Still decoding.

From Orphan Heart to Secure Attachment in Christ — one cracked code at a time.

(Now go buy the books, subscribe to the Substack, and tell your trauma it’s about to get evicted.)

Read moreHaving spent over three decades working directly with children and families affected by Reactive Attachment Disorder, I can say that Dr. Franklin Edward Shoemaker’s approach uniquely combines professional expertise with personal experience, which is rare and incredibly powerful. His SNAPPED → SHIFTED → SOLID framework resonates deeply because it mirrors the real progression many families go through when healing attachment trauma. In particular, the 'SNAPPED' phase reflects that overwhelming fight-or-flight instinct children develop when survival is threatened—a state that often causes caregivers to feel helpless or defeated. Recognizing this as a starting point rather than a dead end is essential. The 'SHIFTED' phase, where therapeutic intervention begins rewiring broken codes, highlights the importance of consistent, patient, and intentional parenting or therapy. One lesson I've learned alongside Dr. RAD's teachings is how integrating spiritual support can amplify healing. His emphasis on securing attachment in Christ as the 'SOLID' phase offers an additional layer of hope and strength that complements clinical methods. It’s an approach that honors both science and soul. Moreover, Dr. Shoemaker’s personal journey—bringing RAD challenges home through adoption—adds authenticity to his work that can’t be replicated by detached clinical research alone. His ability to turn his family’s struggles into a laboratory for redemption underscores that healing attachment trauma isn’t just about managing symptoms but transforming relationships holistically. From my experience, families grappling with RAD often feel isolated and overwhelmed by the complexity of trauma’s impact. Resources like Dr. RAD’s books and programs provide practical tools and a roadmap toward recovery. His willingness to speak openly and unapologetically breaks stigma and encourages a mindset of resilience and radical love. If you or someone you know is entangled in the chaos of attachment wounds, diving into Dr. Shoemaker’s work may be a vital step toward clarity and healing. It’s about more than therapy—it's about cracking the code that has kept hearts orphaned and unlocking the potential for secure, lasting relationships.
