How to deal with loneliness and isolation?

I’ve been single for a few years. Moved across the country earlier this year for a contract. Working on switching careers to facilitate a better work/life balance. But until then, as I’m working 60-80 hour weeks, how do I manage the loneliness?

... Read moreLoneliness is a common experience, particularly for those undergoing significant life changes such as moving to a new area or switching careers. It can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re working long hours. To cope with loneliness, consider integrating social activities into your weekly routine, such as joining community groups or online forums. Engaging in hobbies or new interests not only distracts from feelings of isolation but also opens opportunities to meet new people. Practicing mindfulness and self-compassion is crucial; remember, it’s okay to feel lonely at times. Regular video calls with family or friends can bridge the gap created by physical distance. Additionally, consider volunteering or participating in local events that pique your interest. These activities can provide valuable social interaction and fulfillment. Writing a journal to express feelings or using apps designed to connect individuals with similar interests can boost emotional well-being. With consistent effort and the right strategies, it's possible to build a fulfilling social life and break free from loneliness.

There are a few things that help me. I started learning a new language and use the app "Hello Talk" to meet people to practice with. When playing online video games, I engage in chats more often than I used to. I also seek out other lonely people and chat with them occasionally.

Let me know, too. I've been using Overwatch custom lobbies, but the drama and the trolling are pushing me away from the community. All the book clubs are too far from home, so I only do them online now
