So my 24th birthday is coming up (February) and I am thinking of doing something I’ve never done before and take a solo trip.
Long story short, I don’t really like my birthday and I always seem to be sad on my bday which for some reason seems to be elevated even more when I’m with friends. I just want my birthday to be enjoying time with myself, maybe getting a little pampered, and just doing whatever I want to do.
I live in the states and I prefer to stay in the states since I just wanna do a short trip (3-4 days), but down to go anywhere within the states!! Does anyone have any recommendations or has anyone else done something like this??
... Read moreOh wow, your dilemma about feeling sad on your birthday resonates with so many of us! It’s such a common feeling, and honestly, choosing a solo birthday trip sounds like the perfect antidote. I’ve actually taken a few solo trips myself, though not specifically for my birthday, and they've been incredibly empowering. Thinking about the question "Has anyone ever travelled solo for their birthday?", the answer is a resounding YES, and it's often a deeply rewarding experience.
Why a Solo Birthday Trip is a Game-Changer:
The beauty of a solo birthday getaway is that it’s all about *you*. No compromises on where to eat, what to do, or when to wake up. It’s a chance for genuine self-celebration and reflection. You mentioned wanting to be pampered and just doing whatever you want – that’s exactly what solo travel offers. It’s a powerful act of self-love, allowing you to recharge and truly enjoy your own company.
Picking Your Perfect US Destination for a Short Getaway (3-4 days):
Since you’re looking to stay within the US, there are tons of fantastic options for a short, pampering solo trip.
Spa Retreats: Consider places like Sedona, Arizona, known for its spiritual vibes and luxurious spas. Or boutique resorts in California's wine country, offering relaxation and gourmet experiences.
Coastal Escapes: A cozy Airbnb in a charming beach town (think Outer Banks, NC; Santa Barbara, CA; or even some quieter spots in Florida) can be perfect for long walks, reading, and enjoying the ocean breeze.
City Breaks (with a twist): If you enjoy culture, pick a city like Charleston, SC, or Savannah, GA, known for history, good food, and walkable streets. You can explore museums, enjoy fine dining, and treat yourself to a fancy hotel. For a more outdoorsy city vibe, Denver or Asheville could be great for combining city comforts with nature.
Tips for a Stress-Free Solo Birthday Trip:
Safety First: Always share your itinerary with a trusted friend or family member. Stay aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Choose accommodations with good reviews and secure entry.
Budget Wisely: Even for a short trip, having a clear budget helps. Factor in transportation, accommodation, food, activities, and a little extra for spontaneous treats (like that massage you deserve!).
Plan, But Be Flexible: Have a few key activities or reservations in mind, but leave plenty of room for spontaneity. The best solo moments often happen when you stumble upon something unexpected.
Embrace Solitude: Bring a good book, a journal, or enjoy listening to music. Don't feel pressured to constantly be "doing" something. Sometimes, the best pampering is simply quiet reflection.
Treat Yourself: This is your birthday! Book that spa treatment, indulge in a fancy meal, or buy that souvenir you love. Make it special.
Capture Memories: Take photos, but also try to be present. Journaling about your experiences can be a wonderful way to remember the trip.
A solo birthday trip can truly transform how you view your special day. It’s an investment in yourself and a beautiful way to celebrate getting older on your own terms. I hope you have the most incredible 24th birthday getaway!
I travel solo all the time, because I’m not waiting for anybody else to come along, and then complain the whole time. I traveled solo to England for my last birthday and highly recommend it. Even when things were quiet, I was in a fascinating place!
No and I’m debating if I should start because life is too short to wait on people but I’m scary 😭
