Day in the life of an American living in Bratislava for the hockey season & going through IVF overseas! 🤍🏒
It's been quite the whirlwind embarking on this journey as an American expat, Madilyn Joy Davis, especially while navigating the hockey season and undergoing IVF overseas here in Bratislava. Every day brings a new set of experiences, combining the familiar comforts of home with the exciting challenges of European life. I often get asked what a typical day looks like, and honestly, no two are exactly alike, but there’s always a thread of determination and hope weaving through them. My mornings usually start with a walk with my sweet dog, Milo. Seeing the beautiful fall leaves here in Slovakia has been such a joy; it truly feels magical. After our walk, it's usually time for an outfit check. I love finding comfortable yet stylish pieces for my active lifestyle. You'll often find me in my favorite Lululemon leggings and top, perfect for everything from errands to a quick workout. If it's chilly, my Aritzia puffer is my go-to for staying warm. Fitness is a huge part of my routine, especially during my IVF journey. It helps me stay grounded and strong, both physically and mentally. I'm often headed to the gym, which is just a short drive away. There was a period after a recent procedure where I couldn't lift for about a month, and coming back to it was tough. But pushing through those moments, even when I'm feeling it, is so rewarding. My On Cloud sneakers and a reliable sports bra are essential for these sessions. After a good workout, I might head to Eurovea, the largest mall in Slovakia. Malls are still such a central part of life here, and it's a great place to pick up essentials or discover new things. Recently, I stumbled upon these incredible Biodance facial sheet masks there. I'd seen them pop up all over TikTok, and after trying one, I was hooked! Skin care has become even more important to me during this time. I also needed some new shampoo because my hair has been falling out a bit, and I found one that smells absolutely divine – earthy tones that feel so calming. One little luxury I've discovered is how much more affordable Nespresso is here in Europe compared to the States! Seriously, I stocked up on 11 sleeves, including some holiday editions. And let's not even get started on the price of Tree Hut scrubs... I couldn't believe the difference. These small comforts and discoveries make expat life feel a little more like home. Through all of this – the daily routines, the fitness, the shopping, and the expat adventures – the IVF journey is always present. It's a deeply personal path, filled with its own unique challenges and triumphs. Living through it overseas adds another layer of complexity, but also incredible support from my community here. It’s a testament to resilience, and I'm sharing my story in hopes of connecting with others who might be on a similar path, showing that even amidst big life events, there's a beautiful, messy, and hopeful 'day in the life' to be lived.
