Mista (JJBA)

Creating fan art for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, especially for a character as iconic as Mista, is always an exciting challenge! When I decided to do this speedpaint for an art competition, I really wanted to capture his essence. Mista, Guido Mista, is a standout character from Golden Wind (Vento Aureo), known for his cool demeanor, his Stand, Sex Pistols, and of course, his infamous tetraphobia – the fear of the number four. It’s hilarious how much of his character revolves around avoiding anything with the number four, often leading to some truly 'bad luck' situations in the series. During my 'Mista speedpaint', I was thinking about how to subtly hint at this trait without making it too obvious in the art itself. Maybe a slight look of apprehension, or an element that almost has four of something. It’s these little character quirks that make JoJo characters so memorable and fun to draw. For this piece, I primarily used IbisPaint, which is an amazing digital art application for creating dynamic illustrations. I often find myself experimenting with different brushes and layers to get that signature JoJo art style, which is so distinctive with its bold lines and vibrant colors. A speedpaint is great because it pushes you to work quickly and capture the energy of the subject. Sometimes, when doing a 'Mista speedpaint', you just get into the zone and let the strokes flow. Beyond his aversion to the number four, Mista is also known for his loyalty to Giorno and his gang. He’s a crucial part of the team, and his Sex Pistols are not only powerful but also incredibly expressive and funny. There's a lot of depth to his character, which makes him a recurring favorite for many fans, including myself. When you're drawing Mista, you're not just drawing a cool pose; you're trying to convey his pragmatism, his occasional panic, and his unwavering dedication. Thinking about the reasons fans search for Mista, it's interesting how many people are curious about things like 'why doesn't Mista like 4' or 'how did Mista die' (spoiler: he doesn't, but he's often in perilous situations!). These questions highlight how much fans connect with the lore and character details. When I create fan art, I'm often inspired by these deeper aspects of the character. It's not just about replicating a manga panel; it's about bringing the character's 'story' to life. Participating in an art competition adds another layer of excitement. It encourages you to push your boundaries and present your best work.
