TITLE: Living in a State of Play: Creativity for Self and Creative Facilitation
DESCRIPTION: Creativity is our birthright. When we are creating (in a state of play), we can find opportunity in place of mistakes. The creative arts can be a vehicle for sensory integration, expanding preferences, building tolerance, social communication, and relief from the distress associated with executive functioning differences. This talk will approach creativity for self, as a practice for recentering, full expression-stimming, and unmasking. Creative facilitation will be discussed as a lived experience in personal devotion to authenticity and preferred social engagement, parallel play.
BRIEF BIO: Amber Rene Mouton, MS is a recorded artist, composer, arranger, and songwriter. She has worked as an Outreach Artist and uses visual art to help individuals connect with their core values. She has worked therapeutically and as an advocate in neurodivergent communities, practicing with a neuro-affirmative outlook. Additionally, she has worked with adolescents in educational settings and residential programs, adults and children with developmental disabilities, individuals with limited vocal communication repertoires, and adults in long-term care. Amber uses self-management and self-acceptance as a framework for creative-based programming to rekindle imagination and to honor individual needs.
ABOUT Cultural Autism Studies at Yale (CASY): An 'ethnography' is an exploration of how a group of people express themselves in a cultural way. Autistic people have a growing kind of culture, and each autistic experience is a vital part of it. Dr. Dawn Prince-Hughes is an anthropologist, ethnographer, primatologist, and author who is autistic. Join her for an exploration of the importance of autistic self-expression and the culture that grows from it.
