Another critical aspect is the presence of parasitic infections that may perpetuate intestinal methanogen overgrowth (IMO). Testing and treating for parasites has been essential in preventing relapse. Immune system health also plays a vital role; since much of our immune defenses are tied to the gut, chronic dysregulation can allow methanogens to thrive unchecked. Furthermore, mold toxicity cannot be overlooked. Mold exposure can disrupt at least five protective mechanisms in the body designed to prevent microbial imbalances like SIBO. I personally found that addressing mold exposure through lifestyle changes and detoxification helped improve my gut environment significantly. Overall, managing methane dominant SIBO involves more than just targeting the microbes with antibiotics or herbal antimicrobials. It requires addressing underlying factors such as toxins, immune function, and environmental influences to achieve lasting gut health and symptom relief. Consistency and patience are key, as methanogen overgrowth tends to relapse if these root causes are ignored.
