all my son’s announcements
These five pictures were my big announcements throughout my pregnancy and the birth of my son.
1️⃣ this is the picture I took the day I got the positive test. I told my husband in person, then sent this picture to my mom and my best friend.
2️⃣ this picture is also from that first day, but later. I didn’t announce to many people at first, but one group I told immediately was my roller derby team. It was the middle of our season so I had to tell them I wouldn’t be skating anymore, and I found the best way to do it. We had a COVID exposure at an event and had to all show a negative test before we could return to practice - I had taken the COVID test in the morning, a few hours before finding out I was pregnant. I sent the second picture with “instructions unclear - out for the season”
3️⃣ this was my general announcement to friends and family on Facebook. I thought it was funny and a very me way to announce 🤷🏻♀️
4️⃣ this was our gender and name reveal. The whole “son’s day” thing was going around Facebook that day so it seemed as good a day as any to announce it
5️⃣ finally, this was the first picture I posted after he was born. Looking back at it I absolutely can’t believe how tiny he was!

That moment when you're staring at a pregnancy test, waiting for the lines to appear, is absolutely surreal. I remember shaking, hoping for that second line to pop up. When it finally did, even if it was faint at first, it was pure magic! It's an instant rush of emotions – excitement, disbelief, and maybe a tiny bit of fear all rolled into one. You start imagining everything, from baby names to tiny outfits, even before it feels completely real. Sometimes, especially if it's super early in your pregnancy, you might only see what looks like a faint line on your test. I know I was frantically Googling 'faint positive pregnancy test' like crazy during my early days trying to figure out if I was truly pregnant! It can be so confusing and anxiety-inducing when you're desperate for a clear answer. My advice? Don't panic. A faint line almost always means you are pregnant, as even a small amount of the pregnancy hormone hCG can trigger that reaction. However, if you're unsure or want extra confirmation, retest in a couple of days with your first morning urine – that's when your hormone levels are usually most concentrated. Or, better yet, get a blood test at your doctor's office; they can give you a definitive 'pregnant' answer and track your hCG levels. Factors like how hydrated you are or how concentrated your urine is can affect the line's darkness, so don't let a faint line completely dampen your excitement! There are so many different pregnancy tests out there these days, some digital that simply say 'Pregnant' or 'Not Pregnant,' and others that show lines. They all work by detecting human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), the pregnancy hormone. While they aim for clarity and ease of use, sometimes those early results, especially with line tests, can be a little ambiguous. It's completely normal to feel a bit overwhelmed by all the choices and interpretations. After seeing that positive result, even if it was a faint line at first, my next crucial step was to call my doctor. They'll confirm with a professional blood test and help you start your prenatal care journey, which is so important for both you and your developing baby. It's such an exciting time, but also a lot to take in as you begin to understand all the changes your body will go through and the incredible journey ahead. Beyond the test, early pregnancy brings a whirlwind of emotions and physical changes. From navigating morning sickness (or 'all-day sickness' as I called it!) to figuring out what foods are safe to eat and what activities to modify, there's so much to learn and adjust to. I found it incredibly helpful to connect with other moms-to-be, whether through online forums, local groups, or just friends who had been through it. Sharing experiences and tips definitely made it feel less overwhelming and more like a shared adventure. Once you've confirmed your pregnancy and started to adjust, the next big question is often: 'When and how do I announce?' Just like in my own journey with Henry, there's no single right way. Some people tell close family immediately, eager to share their joy, while others, like many, choose to wait until they're past the first trimester, when the risk of miscarriage decreases. It's a deeply personal decision, and the way you share your wonderful news can be as unique and special as your baby. Whether it's a simple photo, a creative reveal like the ones we did, or a casual mention, the most important thing is that it feels authentic and joyful for you.

He is absolutely beautiful! Congrats mama!!
