baby beach bum
Our first family vacation is in the books! We went to North Myrtle Beach for a few days and wow - that was the reset I needed! It was our first vacation since my son was born and I couldn’t have asked for it to go any better. Henry absolutely loved the water (and the sand - he wouldn’t stop trying to eat it the entire trip 🤦🏻♀️) and it was amazing to watch my baby see the ocean for the first time.
I never realized just how much more stuff vacationing with a toddler would require - but we made it work! There were definitely some products that made the entire experience so much easier and I’ll be posting about those here soon!

Taking your baby on their first beach trip is an unforgettable milestone! Like many new parents, I quickly learned that a beach vacation with an infant requires a whole new level of planning and packing. Our recent trip to North Myrtle Beach with Henry, our little beach bum, was a reset we desperately needed, but it also highlighted some absolute must-haves for making it a success. First and foremost, sun protection is paramount. You'll want to ensure your baby is always under a beach umbrella or in a pop-up tent. We found a portable beach chair with a matching umbrella, similar to the one Henry loved, to be a lifesaver for keeping him shaded and comfortable. Don't forget a wide-brimmed hat (a striped one like Henry's looks adorable!) and a long-sleeved rash guard. Even on cloudy days, UV rays are strong, so apply baby-safe sunscreen to any exposed skin, remembering to reapply frequently, especially after splashing in the water. For water play, a baby float with a canopy is fantastic. It allowed Henry to kick and play, getting a head start on 'learning to swim' safely while we supervised closely. Next up, keeping them fed and hydrated. Pack plenty of easy-to-eat snacks and a spill-proof water bottle for your little one. The beach can be dehydrating, so frequent sips are important. And let's talk about the sand – oh, the sand! Henry was determined to eat it the entire trip, which is a common baby beach activity! While you can't entirely stop them, having plenty of wet wipes for quick clean-ups and distractions like a small bucket and shovel can help steer their attention. Remember to bring a good supply of swim diapers and regular diapers, as well as a changing mat. For keeping your infant entertained, simple beach game for kids like soft balls or chunky plastic toys work wonders. If you have a slightly older toddler, building sandcastles or collecting shells can provide endless fun. We also found a lightweight baby carrier useful for walks along the shore; it's much easier than navigating a stroller through soft sand. Embrace the fact that it won't be a relaxing vacation in the traditional sense, but rather an experience filled with firsts and precious memories. From their tiny toes touching the ocean for the first time to their joyful squeals, these are the moments that make the extra effort worth it. Capturing these 'BABY'S FIRST beach trip' moments, perhaps with a cute 'SURF DUDE' outfit, will give you fantastic memories and photos to look back on from your first family vacation. With a little planning and the right essentials, your beach trip with an infant can be a wonderful, memorable adventure!
