my heart was unprepared for this milestone
My son is 19 months old and up until a week ago had never had a haircut. He was always chill with having his hair cared for and pulled back out of his eyes so it just wasn’t something we ever bothered with. I finally decided it was time - he was the “ring bear” in my best friend’s wedding and I didn’t want to have his little messy man-bun in all the photos 😅
I elected to cut his hair at home for the first one because I wanted it to be a special moment between us - and also because I wasn’t sure how he’d react to a new experience in a busy/bright/noisy salon. He definitely didn’t love the process but still handled it so well! It did get to be a little much for him towards the end so I left touchups til the following day, and he ended up with a cute new cut just in time for the wedding!
I knew losing that baby hair would be tough on my still-new mama heart, but I wasn’t expecting the impact it actually had. My son still has his baby face (judging by his father he may never completely lose it 😅) but he just looks so much more grown with his new ‘do. The entire purpose of parenting is to raise new whole humans, but knowing they’ll never be that small again is a specific pang.
What were the milestones that you celebrated but also had your own big feelings over?
