Zeon | Original Character
I wanted to make this character for a while, but I didn't really know how to do it! I was experimenting a little with the mirroring tool and my brushes (even though after I just defaulted to my usual brushes). I'm just making a portrait for now, mostly cuz I haven't thought of the design for the rest of him yet. Hopefully, I'll make something tomorrow before I go back to school (I also have to catch up on homework, but I didn't feel like doing anything today).
Also, I'll post the speedpaint tomorrow!

Creating an original character like Zeon has been such a rewarding journey, even if it started with a bit of a creative block! I know many of you fellow artists out there might relate to that feeling of wanting to bring an idea to life but not quite knowing where to begin. For Zeon, I really wanted a unique look that stood out, so I focused on defining key features that would give him personality. When I started on his digital portrait, I knew I wanted him to have distinctive traits. That dark, shaggy hair was one of the first ideas, giving him a bit of a rebellious or mysterious vibe. Then came the pointed ears and those striking red eyes – they just seemed to add an intriguing, almost otherworldly quality to his stylized face. And for a touch more edge, I decided on multiple facial piercings. These small details really help in building a character that feels unique and memorable. One of the biggest helpers in getting his face right was experimenting with the mirroring tool in my digital art software. It's fantastic for achieving symmetry, especially when you're still figuring out the proportions. While I did play around with a few new brushes, I eventually found myself going back to my tried-and-true favorites. Sometimes, comfort and familiarity with your tools can make the creative process flow much smoother! The vibrant red background I chose wasn't just random; I felt it complemented his intense eyes and added a bold energy to the overall portrait. Right now, I've only got this headshot, but the fun doesn't stop there! Thinking about the rest of Zeon's design is the next exciting challenge. When you're developing an original character, it’s not just about the face. You start to think about their clothes – do they wear practical gear, or something more fantastical? What about their build and posture? Do those pointed ears suggest a certain origin or species? Do the piercings reflect a particular culture or personal style within his world? Every element can tell a story. For anyone else creating their own OC, I'd say don't be afraid to experiment. Let your imagination run wild, but also be open to tweaking things as you go. Sometimes the most unexpected details, like a specific hair color or a type of jewelry, can really bring your character to life. And remember, it's okay not to have everything figured out at once. Building a character is a process, and seeing them evolve from a concept to a full design is part of the magic. I can't wait to delve deeper into Zeon's world and share more of his complete look with you all soon!
