Pilea peperomioides😍🪴

... Read moreHey plant fam! 👋 I'm so excited to share my journey with my beautiful Pilea peperomioides, often called the Chinese Money Plant or Pancake Plant, which you can see thriving in its grey, textured pot in my indoor plant collection. If you've just brought one of these beauties home or are struggling to keep yours happy, you're in the right place! One of the biggest questions I get is about lighting. My Pilea absolutely loves bright indirect light. I've found the perfect spot for mine near a window, but not directly in the scorching sun. Direct sunlight can scorch those gorgeous round, dark green, coin-shaped leaves. A sheer curtain can work wonders if your window gets too much direct light. Rotating it every week or so also helps it grow evenly and prevents it from leaning towards the light source. Watering is another key. I usually wait until the top inch or two of the soil feels dry before giving it a good soak. Overwatering is the quickest way to invite root rot, which is a common problem for Pileas. If you notice yellowing leaves that feel soft or mushy, especially at the base, it could be a sign of root rot. To prevent this, make sure your pot has drainage holes and use a well-draining potting mix. If you suspect root rot, gently remove the plant, trim off any mushy, dark roots, and repot in fresh, dry soil. Now, for the exciting part – those adorable pups! My Pilea is constantly making little babies at its base, which is so rewarding. These 'pups' are miniature versions of the mother plant. Once they're a few inches tall and have developed a few leaves of their own, you can gently separate them from the mother plant's root system using a clean knife or your fingers. I usually plant them in small pots with fresh potting mix, and they make fantastic gifts for fellow plant lovers! A crucial point for pet owners: is the Pilea peperomioides toxic to cats? Good news! The Pilea peperomioides is generally considered non-toxic to cats and dogs according to the ASPCA. However, it's always best to discourage pets from munching on any houseplants, as even non-toxic plants can sometimes cause mild stomach upset. Beyond light and water, my general care guide for a happy Pilea includes using a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer) and reducing it in fall and winter. They also appreciate average room temperatures and don't like sudden drops in temperature. Keep an eye out for common pests like spider mites or mealybugs, though Pileas are generally quite resilient. Watching my Pilea grow and produce new "coins" is truly one of my favorite plant experiences. I hope these tips help you grow your own vibrant Pilea peperomioides!

My Pilea Peperomioides/ Chinese money plant had a few babies growing with her, so her pot was becoming a little over crowded. Once the pups had enough roots to sustain themselves, it was time to separate them. Since I was repotting the mom back into her original pot, I tried my best to only remove
