... Read moreThere's nothing quite like stepping into your garden and being greeted by a riot of colors! Lately, my garden has been absolutely overflowing with blossoms, and I just had to share them with you all. It's such a joy watching these beauties grow, and I often get asked, "What is the name of this plant?" So, I thought I'd delve a little deeper into some of my current favorites, sharing some tips and what makes each one special.
First up are my beloved Snapdragons. The close-ups really show off their unique 'dragon's mouth' shape! I have a fantastic mix this year, including vibrant red ones with those striking yellow accents, and several lovely bright pink varieties that stand tall, even with developing buds. And don't forget the cheerful yellow snapdragon clusters! They're fairly easy to grow from seeds or seedlings and prefer full sun with well-drained soil. They can even bloom from spring right through to the first frost, adding continuous vertical interest to my flower beds. I find pinching back the spent blooms encourages even more flowering, keeping those colors popping!
My Begonias are another showstopper, adding a touch of elegance with their delicate blooms. I have some exquisite white begonia blooms nestled among dark red and brown leaves – the contrast is just beautiful. Then there are the soft pink varieties, which seem to glow against their deep red and brown foliage. Begonias thrive in partial shade, making them perfect for those spots in the garden that don't get direct, harsh sunlight all day. They appreciate consistent moisture but definitely don't like soggy feet, so good drainage is key. They're amazing for adding continuous color in hanging baskets or shady borders.
And then there's the Salvia, which brings such an architectural element to the garden. I'm particularly fond of the tall stalks of light pink and white Salvia flowers that attract so many pollinators, especially hummingbirds! I also have a dense cluster of bright red Salvia that really stands out in the green foliage. Salvia varieties are generally very low-maintenance, preferring full sun and well-drained soil. They're drought-tolerant once established, which is a huge plus for busy gardeners like me. Deadheading them can encourage secondary flushes of blooms, extending their vibrant display.
Finally, let's talk about my cheerful Marigolds! I have several bright yellow marigold flowers prominently displayed, with blurred green leaves in the background, adding a sunny splash to the garden. Beyond their beauty, marigolds are fantastic companion plants; I've heard they help deter pests, which is a natural way to keep my other plants healthy. They are incredibly easy to grow from seed directly in the garden and love full sun. Just make sure to plant them after the last frost, and they'll reward you with continuous blooms until autumn. They're such vibrant, happy flowers, and seeing them always brings a smile to my face.
I hope this little tour helps you identify some of these wonderful blooms! Each of these plants, from the intricate begonia blooms to the robust snapdragons, contributes to the rich tapestry of my garden. What are your favorite flowers blooming right now? Share your garden stories in the comments!
