Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share a deep dive into my recent Splatoon AU (Alternative Universe) artworks. If you've ever wondered how I come up with these dramatic Octoling creations and capture that distinct Splatoon artstyle, you're in the right place! Creating a Splatoon AU allows for so much freedom to explore new narratives and character dynamics beyond the game's canon. For these pieces, I really leaned into a more intense, emotional side, bringing some of my favorite Octoling characters to life in new scenarios. You'll see everything from "full pieces" with intricate details to some quick "splatoon doodles" I whipped up when inspiration struck. One of my ongoing projects you might spot in these pieces is 'Project CANYON.' It's a personal AU storyline I've been developing, focusing on these Octoling characters navigating a complex world. The city skylines you see—both at sunset and night—are my interpretations of what an urban Splatoon environment might look like in this universe, drawing a little inspiration from the sprawling, interconnected feel of maps like Moray Towers, but with my own dramatic twist. I love thinking about how characters like the Octolings would interact in vast, futuristic settings. Then there are the more intimate moments, like the piece titled 'Lost in SPACE With You.' I wanted to convey deep connections and emotional bonds between characters, which often resonates with queries like 'glam x vicky' or 'octokisser' where fans are passionate about certain pairings. Expressing intense emotions, whether it's through a tearful Octoling with orange hair, or two characters embracing in a starry void, is a key part of my artistic journey for this AU. I've often found myself thinking about the raw intensity of phrases like 'I'D LET THE WORLD BURN FOR YOU' or 'You made my life worth living,' and channeling that into the visual storytelling. Capturing the vibrant 'Splatoon artstyle' while adding my own flair is always a fun challenge. I focus on bold colors, dynamic poses, and those signature glowing elements you see on the characters' suits and patterns. Whether it's the sleek 'white and purple suits' or the more ethereal 'pinkish-red Octoling with glowing patterns,' I aim for visuals that feel both familiar and fresh. Even the 'reefslider splatoon' movement inspires some of the dynamic action poses I try to achieve. I also love playing with varying expressions, from the intense focus of headshots to a character in a dark suit with a glowing chest piece. I'd love to hear what you think of these pieces and my Splatoon AU concepts! Which scene or character resonated with you the most? Let's chat in the comments!
