Episode 5: dining room edition 🤎
This makeover started with wall texture that almost took me out. One skim coat, a lot of sanding, picture frame moulding, fluted trim, three paint colors, and a prayer later… we got there. 😅
Worth it? Absolutely.
Which paint color would you have stopped at?? Don’t miss the next episode!

Tackling a dining room makeover can definitely test your patience, especially when it comes to dealing with tricky wall textures. From personal experience, applying a skim coat is a game changer—it smooths out imperfections and creates a perfect canvas for paint or decorative molding. However, it's important to sand meticulously between coats to avoid uneven surfaces later. Adding picture frame moulding and fluted trim instantly elevates the room's character. I found that painting the moulding and wall in complementary colors can add depth and highlight architectural details beautifully. Using multiple paint colors, as in this makeover, also allows you to experiment with contrast and layering for a custom look. One practical tip: plan your paint color layering carefully before starting. It’s easy to get overwhelmed with options, but testing samples on the wall and seeing them in different lighting helps you decide where to stop and which colors best suit your style. Also, remember that patience and a little faith—and maybe a prayer!—go a long way during these projects. If you're embarking on a similar dining room makeover, don’t rush the prep work—it makes a huge difference in the final result. And trust me, the sense of accomplishment from transforming your space with DIY solutions is absolutely worth all the effort.
