Still on this rocky road to recovery
Came into the NICU and her day nurse was sitting in the chair holding her. The nurse told me she was being fussier than normal and she would have to increase her oxygen while she is agitated. While i was holding her she became increasingly uncomfortable and was crying more than usual while also foaming at the mouth and breathing heavy. By this time there was a shift change so i explained my concerns to the night nurse. She called the resident and while waiting for her to come down one of the doctors happened to come by. He checked her out and told the nurse to give her a dose of lasix which helps get rid of built up fluid and calm her breathing. This video was taken after I gave her a bath and rubbed chamomile lotion all over her. She’s sound asleep for now. Situations like this make it extremely hard to leave her for any given time. 😕#sickbaby #nicu #nicumom #nicudad #nicustrong #avsd #trisomy21
The journey through the NICU can be daunting and filled with uncertainties, especially for parents experiencing a newborn’s unexpected health challenges. Parents often face fears of the unknown, with hospital stays being a stark reality for many, especially with conditions such as AVSD (Atrioventricular Septal Defect) and Trisomy 21, which can require specialized care. Understanding how to communicate effectively with NICU staff is crucial; building strong relationships can help ensure your child's needs are met. Techniques for soothing and comforting your infant, such as gentle bathing and the application of calming lotions, like chamomile, can provide a sense of normalcy and comfort amidst the chaos. Emotional resilience for parents is vital, and connecting with others who are navigating similar situations can provide invaluable support. Online communities, support groups, and resources dedicated to NICU families can help ease the emotional burden, offering both practical advice and emotional comfort during tough times. Recognizing the small victories in your child’s care journey can provide hope and strength to keep moving forward.
