AKC Fast CAT
Such a beautiful day for Fast CAT races!! It was our very first AKC event and we truly couldn’t have asked for a better day. 🌞
Louie earned points towards his title in both races! The little dude was a natural, I actually had to hold him back from the lure, he even decreased his time in the second race. 🏅🖤 He was incredible to watch.
Then there’s Roo. Oh, my sweet Roo. 😂 For the first race I thought it would be best if I was at the end of the course to cheer her on and catch her. But once Cody released her, she went to greet the proctor 🥹 even with a reset Cody had to run down the course with her to show her I was cheering and waving at the end. 🤭 For the second race, we switched it up so I would be the one to release her and Cody would catch her. Once more, she went to say hello to the proctor, not at all minding the lure even though we teased around for her. But I knew that what she needed was movement and motivation, so I said I would run with her this time. And even though it was disqualifying, Roo and I ran together for the first 50 yards where I cheered “get it get it get it!” and as if a lightbulb went off, Roo looked at the lure and flew after it. With the movement of the lure and my encouragement, she finally understood that she was meant to chase the lure, and that she did for the last 50 yards right into Cody’s arms. 😭💕
Roo gained 0 points towards her title (😂), but had the most fun participating and finally understanding what Fast CAT was all about! While I hold no expectations of her, I have no doubt she’ll enjoy the next set of races, whether she makes it on her own or not. 🤭
