Learning Korean

For years I have loved to watch kdramas and listen to Kpop but never gotten far in learning Korean except phrases I hear in shows and music. So, for a good hobby to have I decided to start getting serious about learning the Korea language. And to start I need to get a refresher on the Hangul alphabet and memorize it as well as pronounce the words. After memorizing the alphabet it is good to start simple by testing your knowledge and listening to a song or watching a show to hear how it’s pronounced and to watch the subtitles and test yourself and see what you know so far and what you need work on. I hope this tip works if your a beginner like me and I hope you can follow me on my journey to a Korean glow up. #glowup #lemon8challenge

... Read moreBuilding on my journey to truly learn Korean, I’ve found that getting the Hangul alphabet down pat is the absolute first step. It's not just about recognizing the letters, but really understanding how they sound and how to write them. My initial strategy was to just get a refresher, but I quickly realized there's so much more to it, especially if you want to move beyond basic phrases. One area I've been focusing on, partly inspired by seeing great examples online, is Hangul handwriting. It might seem old-fashioned, but actually practicing writing each character helps so much with memorization and understanding stroke order. I started by looking up Hangul alphabet chart Korean writing system guides and Hangul consonants chart clear diagrams to get a good visual. I even found a fantastic handwritten guide online that broke down each consonant and vowel with clear English pronunciations underneath, just like the kind of notes I've been trying to make myself! There are tons of free Hangul handwriting practice sheets you can download and print. Starting with big, deliberate strokes and then moving to smaller, more natural writing makes a huge difference. Trust me, it helps build muscle memory that sticks! Next up, pronunciation is key. While listening to K-pop and K-dramas is super fun and helpful for immersion, I discovered that some sounds in Korean don't have exact English equivalents, making a dedicated Hangul letters pronunciation guide invaluable. For example, distinguishing between aspirated (with a puff of air) and unaspirated consonants can be tricky, and some vowels require a specific mouth shape. I've been using online dictionaries that provide audio for individual characters and words, and then trying to mimic exactly what I hear. Shadowing – repeating after a speaker almost immediately – has been a game-changer for me. It’s a great way to fine-tune your ear and mouth. To truly master the Korean language a to z, I realized I needed a more structured approach than just picking up phrases. So, I started exploring different how to study Korean lesson page resources. Websites like Talk To Me In Korean offer free, comprehensive lessons that walk you through grammar and vocabulary step-by-step after you've mastered Hangul. For those looking for a Hangul alphabet chart labeled with detailed explanations, these sites are goldmines. Consistent, short study sessions daily are much more effective than cramming once a week. And speaking of resources, I have to mention Korean apps! They are fantastic for on-the-go learning. I use apps like Duolingo and Memrise for vocabulary building and quick Hangul refreshers. For looking up words and phrases, Papago and Naver Dictionary are indispensable – they often provide example sentences and even different nuances of words. Some apps even have writing practice features that give you immediate feedback on your strokes. These digital tools make it so much easier to squeeze in a few minutes of learning throughout my day, turning travel time or waiting in line into productive study sessions. My biggest tip for anyone on this journey is to stay consistent and make it fun. Combine your formal study with your passion for K-pop and K-dramas. It's amazing how much more you pick up when you understand the foundational alphabet and pronunciation. I’m excited to see how far I can go, and I hope these tips help you on your own Korean glowup!

Text outlines two methods for language learning: creating custom vocabulary lists and study plans using ChatGPT for content and Notion for organization, and generating daily practice prompts with ChatGPT for Korean writing/speaking exercises tracked in Notion.
Text details two more language learning methods: using ChatGPT for grammar lessons and examples, which are then organized into a Notion grammar notebook, and building a media-based learning tracker in Notion for vocabulary from Korean dramas/Netflix shows, with ChatGPT providing phrases.
