The Emergency Information Integrity Act

This is not a censorship bill.

It does not ban speech.

It does not tell anyone what conclusions to draw.

It does not decide what is “true.”

It does one extremely boring, extremely important thing:

During officially declared emergencies, it requires large broadcast outlets to distinguish verified information from speculation.

That’s it.

When there is a hurricane, wildfire, pandemic, chemical spill, or other declared emergency, people are already stressed. They are already afraid. Their nervous systems are already overloaded. At that moment, the difference between what is known and what might be true matters.

Right now, those two things are often blended together.

A model becomes a prediction.

A prediction becomes a certainty.

A possibility becomes a countdown clock.

And suddenly you’re not being informed—you’re being physiologically activated.

The Emergency Information Integrity Act does not restrict what can be reported. Instead, it introduces procedural clarity requirements for large platforms during emergencies:

• Clearly label what is verified fact

• Clearly label what is projection or modeling

• Clearly label what is unknown or uncertain

• Require confidence ranges for numerical estimates

• Prohibit speculative language presented as inevitability

• Separate commentary from information in on-screen formatting

This applies equally to every outlet. Left. Right. Corporate. Public. Cable. Radio.

No one is silenced.

Everyone is clarified.

Why does this matter?

Because panic is not neutral. Panic costs lives.

During emergencies, people make worse decisions when uncertainty is framed as certainty. They hoard when they shouldn’t. They flee when they shouldn’t. They freeze when they shouldn’t. Or they ignore real danger because they’ve been trained to tune out constant alarm.

This bill does not tell people what to think.

It simply restores the distinction between: “Here is what we know”

and

“Here is what we think might happen.”

That distinction used to be standard scientific practice. It still is in medicine, engineering, aviation, and emergency response. Media should not be the one domain where ambiguity is turned into spectacle.

Importantly, this bill only applies during formally declared emergencies, and only to large broadcast platforms—the ones with national reach and amplification power.

It does not apply to: • Independent creators

• Personal commentary

• Satire

• Opinion pieces clearly labeled as such

People are still free to speculate. They just can’t dress speculation up as certainty while millions of people are making real-world decisions.

This bill is boring on purpose.

It doesn’t pick sides.

It doesn’t score points.

It doesn’t create villains.

It just insists that when things are already on fire, we stop pouring accelerant in the form of bad epistemology.

Accuracy is not calm.

Calm is not denial.

And clarity is not censorship.

The Emergency Information Integrity Act is a seatbelt law for information.

You can still drive fast.

You just don’t get to pretend you aren’t doing it.
