the best spot hidden high up in the mountains 🗻✨

I felt so fortunate to stumble upon this gem while visiting Maokong, Taipei. We arrived earlier than expected and decided to explore the area before sunset. We got there around 3 PM, and the owner mentioned it was their tea-time service and that the kitchen would open at 5. They kindly suggested other places with an open kitchen, but we decided to try their tea service while waiting for the sun to set.

This spot is perfect for dining and enjoying the view as the sun sets right outside the restaurant. We ordered the radish egg, tea-infused fried rice, and pepper salt pork ribs. Each dish had the comforting feel of home-cooked food and was absolutely delicious. What made the experience even better was seeing mostly locals dining in, with hardly any tourists around—it felt like we had discovered a true hidden gem.

I love how the area transforms as evening falls—the mountain views take on a magical glow under the soft night light. While the tea-infused fried rice and pork ribs provide comforting flavors reminiscent of home cooking, sipping tea here feels like a peaceful ritual. If you’re planning a visit, try to arrive in the afternoon to catch both the daylight mountain scenery and the stunning night view. Many tea houses offer cozy outdoor seating where you can relax and breathe the fresh mountain air. Don’t forget to explore nearby trails for a light hike before settling in for tea. The welcoming local vibe makes the experience even more special, as it feels like a secret retreat cherished by residents rather than a bustling tourist spot. One of my favorite moments was savoring the delicate flavors while watching the sun set beyond the hills—the perfect moment to pause and appreciate nature’s tranquility. For those wanting to avoid the crowds but still enjoy authentic Taiwanese tea culture, Maokong is an ideal destination. Remember to try unique snacks like radish egg and pepper salt pork ribs along with the tea for a full experience.
