my take on summer classes

I took a summer class two years ago and it was MISERABLE. Everything moved so quickly and there were so many assignments to complete in such a short period.

I don't think I will ever take a summer class again unless I absolutely have to. I understand it can be useful for people trying to get ahead, but it was just overwhelming.

I might do an online class if it was a topic I was interested in BUT that's a big if.

Many institutions provide courses exclusively in the summer, which can be a necessity for meeting graduation requirements. However, they often involve a quicker pace, presenting a hurdle for students who struggle to adjust to accelerated learning. It's common for summer sessions to integrate hands-on experiences or field activities, which can enhance learning but also increase workload during a shorter timeframe. One key factor prospective students must weigh is the financial aspect, as summer classes tend to be more expensive. For example, tuition costs can rise significantly, with some universities charging around $4,000 for a single course. This investment needs careful consideration alongside potential academic benefits. Another common concern is maintaining focus in intensive classes. With sessions lasting up to six hours and meeting daily, students may find it extremely challenging to absorb the material thoroughly. Reading-intensive courses can require completion of extensive literature within just a few days, which can take away from the enjoyment of the texts. Conversely, taking summer classes can help forge lasting friendships since students shared a common goal in an intense academic setting. These social bonds, combined with study groups, can enhance the overall summer learning experience, creating a sense of community that can be motivating. Ultimately, whether summer classes are worth it varies from student to student. Factors like personal learning styles, financial situation, and academic goals all play a crucial role in this decision.

My summer classes were covered by financial aid and are asynchronous. Your school is making things so difficult 😭
