When Two Kids Want the Same Toy

From my experience working with young children, handling disputes over the same toy is a daily challenge but also a significant teaching moment. Sometimes, I engage the waiting child in searching for a different but similar toy, like another dump truck nearby, which makes waiting an interactive learning opportunity. Coaching the transition from one child to another without forcing the handover nurtures respect and voluntary sharing. I praise the child who shares when ready, reinforcing the social skill through positive feedback. Overall, these conflicts teach essential life skills such as empathy, patience, and problem-solving, which require time and gentle guidance to develop.
