what a find - my neighborhood nepalese restaurant!

Gorkhali - Brooklyn

My Ratings:

🍴Food: 7/10

- points for tastiness and $

- standouts: DRY CHICKEN CURRY is so flavorful, SAMOSA CHAAT has those wonderful crunchy bits and is slightly sweet

- VEG THENTHUK noodles are cut into small pieces making this so easy to eat, the soup is rich and comforting

- STEAMED MOMO a basic dumpling and you just have to brace yourself a bite because despite looking like XLBs, there’s no soup

- JHOL MOMO good but i think i prefer regular momos since the dipping sauces pack a better punch

- GOAT THALI SPECIAL the curry is simple, the papadum is good, and i love the achar (pickled radishes), but too many big bones/ not enough meat but i liked the flavor

- PORK THALI SPECIAL is good but pork is less memorable than the goat meat

- LASUNI GOBI tasty, just not a standout compared to everything else I tried

- skip: nothing since I haven’t explore nepalese cuisine enough so idk what’s REALLY good /what’s not out there

✨Ambience: 5/10

- it’s nothing special but is simple and cozy

🤵Service: 7/10

- good!

- waiter gives good recommendations

... Read moreWhen exploring the vibrant world of Nepalese cuisine, few establishments offer as much character as Gorkhali in Brooklyn. This restaurant is a haven for those looking to indulge in authentic Nepalese dishes. One of the standout options on their menu is the VEG THENTHUK, which features hand-pulled noodles in a rich, comforting soup, promising a taste of traditional Tibetan culinary art. Another must-try is the SAMOSA CHAAT, where crispy samosas meet a delightful blend of sweet & sour chutney and yogurt, creating a perfect balance of flavors. For those craving something heartier, the GOAT THALI SPECIAL serves divinely spiced goat curry accompanied by rice and pickled radishes—ideal for sampling a variety of textures and tastes. The STEAMED CHICKEN MOMO is another popular choice, showcasing perfectly crafted dumplings that, despite their appearance resembling XLBs (soup dumplings), deliver a satisfying bite without the broth. This dish often reminds patrons of the homestyle cooking typically enjoyed in Nepal. Beyond the food, Gorkhali provides a simple yet cozy ambience, making it a great spot for casual dining or a cozy meal with friends. The attentive service further enhances the dining experience, with knowledgeable waitstaff ready to recommend dishes tailored to your preferences. In summary, Gorkhali is more than just a restaurant; it’s a cultural experience that brings the essence of Nepalese cuisine to Brooklyn. Whether you’re a fan of traditional dishes or someone eager to explore new flavors, Gorkhali deserves a spot on your culinary map!
