Buddakan, TAO's classier older sister

Both offer a luxurious Asian dining experience, but they cater to slightly different moods. One of the most common questions I saw online was about the Buddakan dress code. Beyond the standout Dungeness Crab Sticky Rice, which had an amazing texture but could use a bit more crab flavor for me, there were so many tempting options. While the original review mentioned the Oxtail Dumplings, and noted the meat could be tough, I observed them served beautifully in a sweet soy sauce with shredded green apple and jalapeño – a presentation that almost convinced me to give them another try, perhaps on a different visit. The ambiance at Buddakan truly is something special. The grand dining room with its soaring ceilings and long communal table creates an immediate "wow" factor. It feels more intimate and sophisticated than Tao's typically more bustling, club-like atmosphere. The dramatic lighting and intricate decor make it perfect for a special occasion, a celebratory dinner, or a larger group gathering, just as the original article mentioned. It’s definitely a place where you want to linger and soak it all in, enjoying both the food and the visual spectacle. To really maximize your Buddakan experience, I’d highly recommend making a reservation well in advance, especially for weekend evenings. Their cocktails, like "The Royal" from my visit, are absolutely divine and worth exploring for the perfect pairing with your meal. Don't be afraid to ask your server for recommendations, whether it's for food pairings or drink selections – they know the menu best. And remember, it's a place to enjoy the full experience, not just a quick meal. So, is Buddakan better than Tao? I’d say they offer different but equally fantastic experiences. If you're looking for a more refined, elegant, and food-centric evening with a sophisticated, grand vibe, Buddakan definitely takes the crown for me. It's a culinary journey in a stunning setting, and absolutely worth visiting for yourself to compare!
