We went to Mikel’s Red Tacos two days in a row, but we went to two different locations and tried something new the second time. Our first visit we tried their savory, delicious, birria tacos, and some churros — this time we got the tacos again, but picked up their fat burritos and it did not disappoint. It was a lot of food for us, and I think we’ll just stick with the tacos moving forward, but maaaan it was DELICIOUS 🤤 #tacos #sandiegoeats #foodreview
If you're a fan of Mexican cuisine or simply enjoy exploring new food spots, Mikel’s Red Tacos is definitely a place to try when in San Diego. What stood out to me was not only the rich, savory taste of their birria tacos but also the generous portion sizes that make for a truly satisfying meal. Birria, a traditional Mexican stew usually made from beef, lamb, or goat, is slow-cooked with a blend of spices that results in tender, flavorful meat. At Mikel’s, the tacos are packed with this juicy filling, accompanied by a perfectly toasted tortilla that holds all the deliciousness together. On my visits, the churros were a delightful treat, offering a sweet balance to the savory dishes. These fried dough pastries, coated lightly with cinnamon sugar, are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, making them a perfect dessert or snack. Trying the burritos on the second visit was an exciting change, and it did not disappoint. They offer a 'fat burrito' option, which is quite large and stuffed with plenty of fillings, making it ideal for anyone with a big appetite or looking for a hearty meal. Although I ended up preferring the tacos due to their perfect taste and size, the burritos were a worthy indulgence. Visiting two different locations gave me a chance to appreciate the consistency and quality that Mikel’s Red Tacos maintains across their branches. Located at 4310 Genesee Ave, Ste 105,106, in San Diego, the spot is convenient for local foodies and visitors alike. Whether you’re craving a quick bite or a filling meal, the variety at Mikel’s ensures something for everyone. In summary, the combination of authentic birria tacos, delicious churros, and satisfying burritos makes Mikel’s Red Tacos a standout spot on the San Diego food scene. If you enjoy flavorful, Mexican-inspired dishes served fresh, add Mikel’s to your list—you won’t be disappointed.
