The shepherd meets the king of snakes, who offers him riches. Guided by the rescued snake, the shepherd insists on understanding animal language. The king reluctantly grants this gift, warning that revealing it will cause his death.

The shepherd, now understanding animal language, overhears ravens revealing a hidden treasure. He and his master unearth it, and the master gives it to the shepherd, who becomes wealthy, marries, and plans a Christmas celebration.
