I have lovedddd gaming ever since I was little and i’ve been playing it since I was 3! So today I’ve dug around and uncovered my old consoles that I used to use and gave them ratings!!! I think you can tell i’m definitely a Nintendo girly though 😅
1. Playstation 2
So this console was there before I was born I’m pretty sure 💀 It was my dad’s and he got all these fighting games that he’s never even touched 💀 So of course when I was like 3 it was mine and i played Dora and Finding Nemo instead 😈
2. Nintendo DSi
I had a Nintendo DS in dark blue before this one but I gave it away to get the newer one (don’t ask me I got no clue why I did that). I love love love my DS and I carried it with me everywhere when I was a kid 😭 My biggest flex on this is on my Mario Party profile! I’ll absolutely destroy you in it 😎
3. Nintendo Wii
The beautiful beautiful Wii. I got this one Christmas and it’s really been a great family console! I have such nostalgic memories of playing super mario with my family on it 😭 It’s also how i found so many games that i’m still in love with to this day (Kirby and Just Dance)
4. Xbox One
I give it this low because I literally got it to play minecraft with my sister but we had to get xbox online (or whatever it’s called) to play together on the same console after buying the extra remote? Like bruh ain’t no wayyyyyy.
5. Nintendo Switch
I got this because I wanted to maintain my dignity after I thought it was the Nintendo 3Ds so I just went with it 😭 Got it the first day and i’ve been playing with it ever since 🥹 I still gotta send in the joycons to repair a lot so that’s why it’s lower than the other 2 Nintendo consoles.
The minute I saw the challenge I locked in fr. I have some ideas and will keep posting them. Next I think I’ll show all my Nintendo DS games I still have and then maybe my Wii games!!! I’m gonna try hard for this challenge so please give a like, save or follow if you can 🥹
... Read moreIt's funny how a simple challenge to rate my old consoles got me thinking so much about the era of gaming I grew up in! When I talk about my dad's PlayStation 2, it really opens up a whole treasure chest of memories from the early 2000s. That period felt like such a golden age for video games, didn't it? It wasn't just about the consoles we owned, but the entire culture surrounding them.
While my PS2 was my main squeeze, I remember friends having the original Xbox or the vibrant Nintendo GameCube. Each had its own unique magic! The PlayStation 2, with its sleek black design (just like the one in my picture!), wasn't just a console; it was a multimedia powerhouse for its time. Everyone remembers playing classics like 'Grand Theft Auto III' or 'Kingdom Hearts' on it. For me, it was all about 'Finding Nemo' and 'Dora the Explorer' at my young age, but the sheer variety of games available was mind-blowing. The graphics, compared to what came before, felt revolutionary.
Then there was the Nintendo side of things. Before the Nintendo DSi and Wii came along later in the decade, the Game Boy Advance was king of handhelds. Even though I didn't get my first DS until a bit later, the spirit of portable gaming and incredible Nintendo franchises like 'Pokémon' and 'Mario' was already thriving. The early 2000s really solidified Nintendo's place as a family-friendly innovator.
And let's not forget the original Xbox! While I didn't own one personally until the Xbox One much later, I vividly recall friends showing off 'Halo: Combat Evolved.' It was a game-changer for first-person shooters and really pushed the boundaries of what consoles could do, especially with its early attempts at online multiplayer. That era was all about pushing limits – bigger worlds, more detailed characters, and increasingly immersive stories.
Looking back, the early 2000s consoles were brilliant because they found a sweet spot. They were powerful enough to deliver incredible experiences, but gaming hadn't become overly complicated yet. It was still largely about splitting a couch with your friends for local multiplayer sessions, discovering new worlds in single-player adventures, and the thrill of unwrapping a new game. The clunky controllers from back then, the memory cards, the excitement of waiting for a new release – it all contributed to a unique gaming atmosphere.
Even consoles like my Wii (which came out mid-2000s) carried on that legacy of family fun and innovation that Nintendo championed in the earlier part of the decade. Playing 'Super Mario' or discovering 'Kirby' on it felt like a continuation of that early 2000s joy. It makes me appreciate how far gaming has come with my Nintendo Switch, but there’s undeniably a special kind of magic reserved for those consoles that kickstarted my journey. They truly shaped what gaming meant to a whole generation, myself included!
I went from having a PS1, PS3, Xbox 1st gen, Wii, Wii U…. To nothing 🥺 However, I got a Nintendo Switch and I absolutely love it!!! What games do you play?
