... Read moreOkay, so you just saw my post about Daily WOD #4, and trust me, this EMOM bodyweight workout is a game-changer! I wanted to dive a little deeper into why this type of 'Every Minute On the Minute' routine is so effective, especially for those of us working out at home or on the go. First off, what exactly is an EMOM? It means you start a new set of exercises at the top of every minute. Whatever time you have left in that minute after completing your reps is your rest period. This specific 'EMOM 20 routine' means you'll be working for 20 minutes straight. It's fantastic for building mental toughness and really pushing your limits! For this WOD #4, we're looking at 5 total rounds of some classic bodyweight moves. If you’re like me, sometimes form can slip when you’re pushing for time, so let’s quickly break down how to nail each one: 20 Bodyweight Squats: Keep your chest up, push your hips back as if sitting in a chair, and ensure your knees don't cave inward. Go as deep as you comfortably can while maintaining good form. Doing 20 can feel like a lot, so pace yourself! 10 Pushups: Whether you do them on your knees or toes, make sure your body stays in a straight line from head to heels (or knees). Lower your chest towards the ground, keeping elbows tucked slightly. Focus on a full range of motion. 10 Reverse Lunges: Step one leg back, lowering your hips until both knees are bent at roughly a 90-degree angle. Keep your front shin vertical and push through your front heel to return to standing. Alternate legs for 5 per side or do 10 on one side then 10 on the other. 20 Mountain Climbers: Get into a plank position, then rapidly bring one knee towards your chest, then switch. Keep your core tight and try not to let your hips bounce too much. This move really gets your heart rate up! The beauty of this 'daily wod' is its versatility. No equipment needed! I love that I can do this 'emom bodyweight workout' anywhere – my living room, a hotel room, or even a park. It's a fantastic way to burn calories and fat in a short timeframe, and I've personally seen improvements in my overall physique and performance by incorporating these types of workouts. If you find 20 minutes too challenging initially, you can always scale it down to an 'EMOM 10' or 'EMOM 15' until you build up your endurance. Conversely, if you want to make it harder, try adding a short pause at the bottom of your squats or pushups, or even increase the rep count slightly if you finish too quickly. The goal is to maximize your work time within each minute. Remember, consistency is key! Adding a 'daily wod' like this to your routine, even a few times a week, will make a huge difference. I'm already looking forward to my next 'bodyweight emom' session!
