Feeling lighter, one day at a time

... Read moreI used to dread walking into my small bedroom. It felt cramped, cluttered, and honestly, a bit chaotic. I saw all these amazing 'before and after' decluttering transformations online, and I thought, 'Why not me?' That's when I decided to take the plunge and give my tiny space a complete overhaul. The feeling of lightness I've gained is truly addictive! It wasn't easy, but seeing the potential for a calmer, more organized sanctuary kept me going. My main goal was a 'small room declutter before after' moment I could be proud of. I started by visualizing the clean, organized space I wanted, and then I broke down the daunting task into smaller, manageable steps. Seeing that 'messy bedroom' slowly transform into a 'clean, organized space' with my cozy 'pink fluffy bed' as the centerpiece was so motivating. One of the most effective strategies I found was to aim for a specific number of items to get rid of. I challenged myself to find '50 Items You Need to Get Rid of Today'. It gave me a clear target and made the process less overwhelming. Don't worry, you don't have to do it all in one go! I also referred to a more comprehensive '100 ITEMS TO DECLUTTER' list that helped me identify hidden clutter spots in different areas of my home. Here’s a quick breakdown of my room-by-room approach and some of the things I let go of: Small Bedroom Declutter: For my sleeping space, I focused on things I hadn't used in months or even years. Old clothes I'd never wear again, dusty knick-knacks, and books I’d already read and wouldn’t revisit. Clearing out under the bed and on my nightstand made a huge difference. Kitchen Declutter: Moving to the kitchen, it's amazing how much clutter accumulates! I tackled 'expired pantry items' first – you'd be surprised what you find hiding in the back of cupboards. Then, duplicate utensils, chipped mugs, and rarely used gadgets. Clear countertops make such a difference! Bathroom Declutter: The bathroom was next. Half-empty bottles of shampoo, old makeup, dried-up nail polish, and medications past their prime were all on the chopping block. Only keep what you actively use and love! Home Office Declutter: Even if it's just a corner of a room, a home office can get swamped with paper. Old bills, unused pens, broken electronics, and outdated manuals went straight into the recycle or donation bin. A clear desk truly leads to a clear mind. Closet Declutter: This is often the biggest challenge, especially in a small space. I followed the 'clothing you haven't worn in a year' rule. If it didn't fit, wasn't comfortable, or didn't make me feel good, it had to go. This freed up so much space and made getting dressed so much easier. Remember, decluttering isn't about minimalism if that's not your style; it's about creating a space that serves you. Be honest with yourself about what you truly need and use. Consider the 'one in, one out' rule for new purchases to maintain your organized space. The 'organization hacks' I learned along the way were invaluable. It's truly a journey towards 'simple living' and a more peaceful 'home edit'. My 'small bedroom declutter before after' journey was transformative. Not just for my space, but for my mindset. If I can do it, you can too! Start small, celebrate every win, and enjoy the incredible lightness that comes with living in a decluttered, organized home.
