From personal experience, one of the biggest challenges is juggling responsibilities without enough support or knowledge of your entitlements. Programs such as Medicaid can significantly ease home care costs, but many caregivers are unaware of these resources or how to access them. It's essential to apply early, as there are often waiting lists. Waiting until a crisis occurs can limit your options and increase stress. Additionally, as a caregiver, you have rights to assistance beyond just medical care. This includes help with food, transportation, and other daily needs, which can be lifesaving especially if time and energy are strained. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength, not failure. Taking time to seek support prevents burnout and ensures better care for your loved ones. If you feel unsure about qualifying for aid, rather than asking “Do I qualify?”, try asking “Why wouldn’t I qualify?” This mindset can open doors to unexpected resources and assistance. Caregiving is demanding but utilizing available programs and asking for help early creates a more sustainable balance in your caregiving journey.
