No more holiday lights at Saks 5th Avenue NYC 💔

#lemon8christmas #lemon8contest #localfinds #lemon8challenge

Unfortunately, Saks Fifth Avenue won't have its usual Christmas light display this year and maybe future years too, which has been a holiday tradition for almost 20 years, I loved seeing it with my parents and cousins. The show usually lights up late November to early January.

We would usually stop by the nearby Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and admire it too.

This change feels sad, leaving a sense that something important is missing from this year's holiday celebrations in New York City and future generations

... Read moreThe news that there will be "No More Christmas Lights" at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC this year, and possibly for future years, truly hit me hard. It’s hard to imagine the holiday season on Fifth Avenue without that iconic dazzling display. For almost two decades, that light show was a beacon of festive joy, a cherished part of my family's annual trip to the city. We'd gather, often with hot cocoa in hand, just to watch the building come alive with its magical projections. It felt like the official start of Christmas in New York. The sadness isn’t just about the lights themselves, but about the loss of a tradition that connected generations. My parents remember it, I remember it, and I always hoped to share it with future family members. But even with this change, New York City during the holidays remains an absolutely magical place. While one tradition sadly fades, countless others continue to sparkle. Our usual routine after Saks was to stroll over to the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, which, thankfully, will still be lighting up the night. The sheer scale and beauty of that tree are breathtaking every single time. It’s a powerful reminder that the spirit of Christmas in NYC is resilient and widespread. Beyond the big tree, the city's luxury shopping scene also plays a huge role in the holiday atmosphere. Fifth Avenue itself transforms into a wonderland. Even if the Saks lights are gone, the windows of many high-end stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue itself, are still works of art. You can spend hours just admiring the elaborate displays, each one telling a unique story. It’s part of the charm of visiting major luxury brands in NYC. Speaking of luxury, for anyone looking for that quintessential high-end shopping experience, exploring the various flagship stores is a must. While the specific light show at Saks is missed, the presence of these iconic brands, from the instantly recognizable Saks logo on shopping bags to the opulent interiors of an NYC LV store, contributes to the unparalleled holiday vibe. Louis Vuitton stores in New York City, for instance, are destinations in themselves, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and often featuring their own festive touches during the holiday season. They offer a different kind of visual feast, equally luxurious and inspiring. For those planning a holiday trip to NYC and feeling the void left by "No More Christmas Lights" at Saks, don't despair! Consider exploring other neighborhoods like Hudson Yards for their stunning decorations, or the festive markets in Bryant Park and Union Square. Many other buildings and public spaces throughout the city also put on spectacular light displays. It's about discovering new favorites and cherishing the traditions that remain. The essence of a New York City Christmas, with its vibrant energy, beautiful decorations, and world-class shopping experiences — be it at a grand department store like Saks or a designer boutique like an NYC LV store — is still very much alive. It just means we might need to seek out a few new spots to capture that magic.
