While my brother and I were strolling around Rockefeller Center, he spotted a restaurant tucked inside the iconic space, NARO. Curious and hungry, we decided to give it a try for dinner and wow, what a discovery!
As we stepped inside, the first thing that caught our eye was the gorgeous ceiling design. Intrigued, we asked our waiter about it. He explained that the design was inspired by the Korean satellite "Naro" and features a modern take on a 17th century celestial map, depicting the 24 Jeolgi, Korea’s traditional solar terms or seasons.
The ceiling added such a thoughtful, dreamy vibe to the space.
Now to the food... and let me tell you, it was memorable:
🥗 Amberjack ($24)
Topped with mustard dressing, yellow pepper, and grilled cabbage. Light, fresh, and full of flavor. A perfect start.
🦀 King Crab ($28)
Delicate, sweet crab paired with pine nut dressing, jellyfish salad, and yellow peppers. Light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced — a standout bite!
🍚 Braised Eel Bowl ($33)
Served over quinoa with warm ginger. It was so delicious I’ve started eating quinoa with ginger at home ever since. It's that good.
🍖 Braised Short Rib (Galbi Jjim) ($38)
Melt-in-your-mouth tender, paired beautifully with cherry tomatoes and shishito peppers. I loved mixing the rib with the quinoa, such a comforting combo.
🍨 Naro Ice Cream – Spring Pea Flavor ($6)
Yes, pea ice cream and yes, it was amazing. Light, not overly sweet, with a nice crunch from crispy rice. As a true ice cream lover, I devoured it all
Dining at NARO is not just a meal; it's an experience that ignites the senses. The restaurant's ambiance is a modern twist on traditional Korean aesthetics, highlighted by a ceiling design inspired by the Korean satellite Naro and featuring a conceptual celestial map. Guests can enjoy a thoughtfully curated menu that showcases locally sourced ingredients and balanced flavors. The Amberjack, King Crab, and Braised Eel Bowl reflect a meticulous approach to modern cuisine, blending Korean flavors with contemporary techniques. For dessert, the Spring Pea Ice Cream surprises with its intriguing flavor profile, providing a refreshing conclusion to a meal under the stars. NARO serves as a testament to the culinary landscape of New York City, drawing food enthusiasts from near and far. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply indulging in fine cuisine, NARO promises a genuinely memorable evening filled with creativity and culture.
