"Ditatang bagai minyak yang penuh", Anak Tunggals are always painted as the luckiest ones in life but there's always a dark side to it where loneliness and isolation tend to creep in...
Been overthinking while editing this video for days...
Just wondering, would you feel lonely as an anak tunggal?
Growing up as an anak tunggal (only child) can be both a privilege and a challenge. While we often hear that only children are pampered and fortunate, many of us know the flip side—the deep feelings of isolation and the pressure to carry expectations alone. From personal experience, I’ve felt moments where loneliness crept in, especially when there’s no sibling to share everyday joys or struggles. The video I reacted to truly resonated with me because it addressed the misconceptions about being an only child. It highlighted how sometimes the weight of being the sole focus of parental hopes can feel overwhelming. I’ve found myself overcompensating in friendships and relationships, trying to fill the void of not having brothers or sisters to turn to daily. But an important point made is about community and maturity. Even though physically alone at home, we can build strong friendships and connections that provide support and understanding. This mindset shift—from feeling isolated to embracing a chosen support circle—has helped me navigate the emotional challenges. If you’re an anak tunggal feeling alone, remember it’s okay to lean on friends or community outside your family. Our uniqueness is not just in being only children but also in how we grow, mature, and create meaningful relationships on our terms. This journey is shared by many, regardless of birth order, and learning from it is part of developing into a balanced individual.
