I’m just fed up!!!!

Feeling completely drained today. I got a call from my child’s doctor, telling me his bloodwork showed high lead levels, just below the threshold for lead poisoning. The doctor said this could be why he’s experiencing speech delays. Hearing that crushed me.

The doctor thinks it could be from the paint in the house, so I had them write a letter stating the house needs to be tested. I’ve already contacted the board of health, and we’re waiting to hear back to get an inspection done. My partner and I have decided that whoever can get it done faster—whether it’s the board of health or the landlord—we’re moving forward with it.

This is the icing on the cake, and if the results come back and it is the paint, I will unleash the depths of hell onto this plane of existence. I’ve tolerated my landlord’s slacking for long enough, but my son is the reason I breathe. If it turns out my home has been poisoning him, you better believe I’ll be calling a lawyer.

I feel so guilty and alone

... Read moreLead poisoning is a serious health concern that can affect children’s development, especially in terms of speech and cognitive skills. Signs of lead exposure may vary, but parents should be vigilant about potential sources. Commonly, lead can be found in older homes, where lead-based paints were frequently used. It's understandable to feel frustration and helplessness in such situations, particularly when dealing with a landlord or property management that may not be responsive. If you suspect that your home has lead hazards, it’s crucial to act quickly. Testing your environment is a necessary first step. Contacting local health departments can expedite the inspection process. In addition, educate yourself on your legal rights as a renter, especially concerning hazardous living conditions. Many jurisdictions have laws protecting tenants from unsafe homes, and it may be valid to seek legal assistance if resolution seems unlikely. Furthermore, connecting with support groups—either online or in person—can provide emotional reassurance and practical advice from others who have faced similar challenges. Remember, you’re not alone in this fight for your child's safety and wellbeing.
