... Read moreHey everyone! As an artist deeply immersed in the ROTTMNT universe, I'm always looking for fresh inspiration, and the idea of 'Mud Dogs' really sparked my creativity. When I think of 'Mud Dogs' in the ROTTMNT context, I imagine characters with a certain resilient, perhaps a bit wild or unconventional, spirit – tough yet deeply loyal, maybe a bit rough around the edges but with hearts of gold. That's the energy I channeled into this particular fanart collection. It’s more than just drawing; it’s about diving into the characters and imagining them in unique scenarios that truly capture that vibe.
For these pieces, I really leaned into creating some dynamic ROTTMNT OCs that felt like they belonged, even with their own distinct flair. The first illustration, which features two characters locked in an embrace mid-air against a dark city skyline, was all about capturing intense emotion and connection. One has these striking black and white wings, blue hair, and horns – I wanted to give them an almost mythical, guardian-like presence, perfectly embodying that 'Mud Dogs' blend of strength and devotion. Holding onto them is a green-skinned character with spiky hair, embodying a more grounded, perhaps protective, spirit, completing the duo. The pink hearts and glowing arrows were added to really amplify that feeling of profound connection and devotion, almost like a visual poem about eternal devotion and staying together "until death," as one of the overlaid texts suggests. It’s my personal take on what a powerful, almost destined, bond could look like within the ROTTMNT world.
Then there's the sketch exploring the "2 type of bf" – "the sappy" versus "the evil". This was a fun way to explore different character dynamics and relationships, showing how even 'Mud Dogs'-inspired characters can have a range of personalities. The 'sappy' one, again, shows a tender embrace, highlighting affection and loyalty. But "the evil" one, with one character choking another with a playful "Why me!?" text, adds that layer of dramatic tension and mischievousness. It’s a nod to how complex relationships can be, even in fan-created narratives, letting me play with contrasts and show different facets of character interaction, which I think is a huge part of what makes ROTTMNT and its fandom so vibrant.
I also included a monochrome sketch of a bird-like humanoid character with a beak, horns, and feathery body. This was a tangent, exploring different forms and aesthetics within the ROTTMNT style, perhaps a creature from the Hidden City or another unique OC. It shows how diverse the world is and how many possibilities there are for character design, whether they're Rise Mikey-inspired or completely new, all while maintaining that distinct, sometimes edgy, ROTTMNT aesthetic.
Creating fanart like this, especially when it delves into specific concepts like 'Mud Dogs,' is incredibly rewarding. It’s a way to contribute to the fandom, share my artistic vision, and connect with others who love these characters as much as I do. I hope these illustrations resonate with you and inspire your own ROTTMNT adventures and OCs!
