a few things I’m grateful for. 💫

2024 was the year of survival. I did it! 🙌🏾

... Read moreTurning 39 felt like a true milestone, especially after what felt like a year of just pure survival. Reaching this age, I knew I wanted to celebrate not just another birthday, but also my own resilience and the importance of truly choosing myself. It wasn't about a huge party, but something deeply personal and reflective. That's why I decided on a quick, intimate weekend trip to Charleston, SC, a city I'd always heard whispers about for its charm and beauty. Charleston, with its cobblestone streets and pastel-colored houses, turned out to be the perfect backdrop for my self-care retreat. I wasn't looking for packed tourist attractions, but rather a space to breathe, reflect, and enjoy the simple pleasures. The city's slower pace and inherent Southern hospitality instantly put me at ease. It felt like a gentle hug, exactly what I needed to acknowledge reaching age 39 and all the growth that came with it. I spent my mornings strolling through historic neighborhoods, letting the quiet beauty sink in and allow for some much-needed introspection. One of the highlights was definitely the incredible food scene. I indulged in a delightful brunch at a cozy spot, complete with a beautiful brunch table setting that truly felt like a treat. Sipping on a refreshing drink and savoring delicious local flavors, I found myself just soaking in the moment, appreciating the quiet luxury of good food and good company (even if it was just my own!). These moments of pure enjoyment and sensory pleasure were integral to my goal of 'choosing myself' – actively seeking out experiences that nourished my soul and celebrated my journey. This trip was more than just a birthday getaway; it was an affirmation. It reminded me that gratitude isn't just for the big wins, but for the quiet perseverance, the moments of self-discovery, and the courage to prioritize my well-being. Reaching 39 means understanding that self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. It's about recognizing your worth and giving yourself the space and experiences you need to thrive, not just survive. The lessons learned on this intimate weekend continue to resonate, reminding me to always carve out time for what truly matters. If you're thinking of planning your own milestone birthday celebration or just a much-needed escape, I highly recommend looking for destinations that offer a blend of charm, good food, and a relaxed atmosphere. Don't be afraid to make it an intimate weekend trip – sometimes the most profound experiences come from quiet reflection. Whether it’s a solo adventure or with a close loved one, prioritize those moments of choosing yourself and embracing gratitude for every step of your journey.
