She said, “The customer is always right.”

It started over something small she bought the wrong item and wanted to return it used.

Makeup stains, missing tags, clearly worn. I politely explained the policy, but she immediately snapped, “The customer is always right!”

I wanted to say, not this time, ma’am. But I kept my voice calm, even when she slammed the item on the counter and said I was “unhelpful.”

What people don’t get is we don’t make the rules. We just follow them.

And sometimes, the “customer” is just rude and entitled.

I went home that night replaying it in my head, wishing I could’ve said what I really felt:

Respect goes both ways.

Retail workers aren’t punching bags.

Have you ever had to smile through something that made you furious inside?
