Beginner’s Guide to Hair Curling & Hair Care ✨📝

Hi lemon8!! 🍋

When I started out on my hair care / hair styling journey, I felt really lost as I didn’t want to spend too much and also didn’t want to randomly buy something which will burn my hair 😭😭 I also had a period of hair loss due to stress last year so I was even more careful when choosing my hair products. This is my advice from one beginner to another 🙈🫶

1. Maintain GOOD hair care!! It is key to having nice curls and feeling good about it + less frizziness

- No need for toooo many hair products. Personally for skin care as well, I’ve adopted the idea that less is more and that has worked for me (but also still uty)!!

- I use UNOVE Deep Treatment Mask as my conditioner (but I also alternate with Pantene conditioner on the days where I do not need my hair to be EXTREMELY silky or not need more strengthening - this is only because I buy these with my own money and would not like to spend too much!! 💸💸)

- on the days that I feel my hair is a bit more frizzy, I like to use UNOVE No Wash Ampoule Treatment. It’s like hair oil but lighter and I spray maybe 4 times onto my hair and diffusely spread it!!

✨Brand: both can be bought from Olive Young (I recommend buying the sets cuz sometimes it comes w heat protectant which I heard is good too!!)

2. Get Curling Essence & Heat Protectant

- always remember to take care of your hair!! Heat protectant is a must. I use the Lucido-L lotion (avail in Watsons)

- Curling essence is great to lock in the curls. USE THIS AFTER U HAVE CURLED!!! Put a pea-sized amount on your palm, rub together and scrunch your hair from the ends up.

3. Get a auto hair curler (Stryv minicurler)

- as a beginner this is so much easier to use. I’ve tried a hair curling rod before but wow using it was so tough I gave up 🥲🥲🥲

- I know a lot of people have bought cheaper ones from TikTok but I was scared of buying from a non established bigger brand (cuz of all the explosions happening nowadays 😭😭) so I bought from Stryv which has a pretty good offer!!! $169 to $99 now!! Has bundle deals with their mini styler also. You can go down to the shops to test it out yourself!! Really super easy to use 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

STEP BY STEP GUIDE: see the pics above!!!

Wishing you the best and softest hair hehe 😁😁

... Read moreWhen it comes to curling your hair for the first time, finding the right tools and techniques can make all the difference. I recommend using alligator clips to section your hair neatly before curling, which helps each curl set properly. Start curling from the pieces closest to your neck and work your way up, letting the curls cool completely before touching them to ensure they hold longer. If you prefer heatless curls, keep in mind that the process can take several hours and the results may vary depending on your hair type. For holding curls without hairspray, using a lightweight curling essence or smoothing oil like Lucido-L can keep your curls soft yet defined throughout the day without stiffness. For short hair, curling can be done naturally by twisting damp hair or using smaller curling rods. The auto hair curler I use from Stryv is perfect for beginners and reduces the risk of burns or damage, which is essential when your hair is also recovering from stress-related hair loss. To care for curly hair daily, I follow a 'less is more' approach with conditioners. Products rich in protein help rebuild strength, and using a no-wash ampoule treatment like UNOVE keeps hair nourished between washes. After waking up, you can refresh curls by lightly misting them and using your fingers to reshape, avoiding harsh brushing. Remember always to protect your hair with a heat protectant before curling or styling with any heat tool. This simple step can prevent damage and keep your curls looking shiny and healthy longer. My favorite heat protectant is Lucido-L lotion, which is effective and easy to apply. Curl carefully, care consistently, and your curls will look fabulous!
