Things I did to lose10 lbs

Here are 6 things I did to lose weight:

1. I minimized my meals down, instead having a full plate of food.

- the way I portion my foods is by visualizing the plate being cut into four pieces, and I leave one area empty. I did this when I first started. Now I minimized my portions down to fit half a plate.

2. I eat slower by putting my utensil down in between bites.

- This has made me feel fuller faster. Especially if I’m distracted by TikTok or my TV, I tend to eat slower now because I’m more focused on what’s happening in front of me.

3. I made room in my schedule to take a 30 minute walk every day.

- When I first started, I didn’t know what route to take, but when I realized I reached 3,000 steps of the route I take now, I made it my goal to walk it everyday. I know 3,000 isn’t a lot but, do that 7 days a week? Do the math.

4. I drank more flavored water to decrease my soda intake.

- I moved out of my parents house February of 2024, and the water I had looked murky… the only thing I wanted was Dr Pepper. I can’t believe how many I drank a day. I felt fat and bloated. I have cargo pants that fit at my waits then, but now they fit at my waist. I might go back down to size small if I keep this up.

5. I used to eat 3-4 snacks a day for the past 7 years. I limited it down to 1 snack a day.

- Usually when I didn’t feel hungry, but I wanted to eat something, I would always snack on something. Trail mix, carrots, nuts… any kind of food that sounded good I just snacked on. Last year after a toxic breakup, I started eating less, because he body shamed me for eating so much. Looks like the narcissist’s words stuck.

6. I take 15 minutes a day for an ab workout.

- Planks, deadbugs, leg lifts… I used to do ab workouts like these all the time when I was younger, because I was a swimmer and my coach had standards. (You could actually see my abs.) Ever since I’ve gotten back into these workouts, I feel more motivated, more energetic and it makes me want to accomplish more goals.

I feel so much healthier and happier than I did 9 months ago, and it is totally worth it. Remember to eat well and drink water.

... Read moreLosing weight effectively often hinges on establishing consistent, manageable habits that seamlessly fit into your lifestyle. One of the critical steps I found helpful was careful portion control. Visualizing the plate as divided into four and intentionally leaving one quarter empty is a powerful way to avoid overeating without feeling deprived. Over time, reducing portions to fill only half the plate became natural and sustainable. Mindful eating, such as putting down your utensils between bites, significantly slows the eating process and signals fullness to your brain sooner. This approach helps prevent mindless overeating, especially when distracted by screens or multitasking. Incorporating a daily 30-minute walk into your schedule can add up, even if the step count seems modest at first. Walking 3,000 steps daily might not appear much alone, but doing it consistently seven days a week accumulates a meaningful calorie expenditure and benefits cardiovascular health. Drinking flavored water as an alternative to soda drastically cuts excess sugar intake and reduces bloating. Switching from soda to water helped me feel lighter and improved the fit of my clothes, clearly demonstrating how beverage choices impact weight. Cutting down snack frequency from multiple times a day to once a day brings a significant calorie reduction. It’s common to snack without true hunger, often driven by emotional triggers, especially after difficult life events. Recognizing and addressing these patterns is key for mindful eating. Finally, engaging in a daily 15-minute ab workout, including exercises like planks, deadbugs, and leg lifts, not only tones the core but also increases motivation and energy levels. Returning to an exercise routine previously enforced during swimming training refreshed my commitment and gave me a sense of accomplishment. Overall, these six habits combined steadily contributed to losing 10 pounds while improving my physical and mental wellbeing. Remember, simple, consistent changes rather than drastic diets or intense routines often lead to sustainable weight loss. Staying hydrated, eating well, being patient, and listening to your body are essential to long-term success.
