I’m 21 y.o and this is how I mange my money

Growing up, money management was never something I was taught directly. One day, out of curiosity, I asked myself, “What can I actually do with this money?” As a child, I began comparing prices and wondering why they differed, which only deepened my curiosity.

Fast forward a few years, I started researching the possibilities. From opening my first brokerage account, to making my first $10 investment, then $1,000, and so on. Along the way, I realised that investing is only one small part of improving my financial situation. That pushed me to pay closer attention to where my money was going. I began tracking my finances daily, which helped me understand my spending habits better and make adjustments where needed.

As a young adult, I’d be lying if I said I’ve mastered money management. I still make impulsive purchases that I sometimes regret days later, but that’s part of life. No one is perfect. Spending money is also a way to enjoy life, and if you become too obsessed with growing your savings, you might end up losing something just as valuable: your time.

I use digital financial planners and trackers regularly, as shown in my detailed monthly and investment sheets. These tools visualize where my money goes, from daily expenses to investment growth, making it easier to adjust my habits. Another habit that transformed my finances was setting clear goals — like saving a certain amount each month or reaching a target investment sum. Instead of aiming for perfection, I embraced small wins like reducing impulsive buys and learning from them. Tracking spending on apps or spreadsheets showed me patterns and categories where I could cut back without sacrificing enjoyment. If you’re seeking help to manage your money, start by understanding your financial status honestly, just as I did with my finance planner for 2025. Use resources like brokerage accounts for beginner investors and combine mindful spending with occasional treats to maintain balance. Remember, managing money is a journey, not a race. Sharing your progress and tips with friends or online communities can keep you motivated and provide fresh ideas to grow your financial confidence.
