Why I chose to spend on gym membership…
This post isn’t meant to influence anyone to get a gym membership. Before making such a big purchase, I went through a lot of thought.
1. I’m not new to the gym—I’ve been going to EnergyOne Gym for the past year, consistently at least 3 times a week. I know I can commit for the next year as well.
2. I have spare cash after savings and investing. I save and invest about 60% of my monthly pay, which gives me peace of mind.
3. Cost analysis: After running the numbers repeatedly, I realized I would actually save $1 per visit by switching to Anytime Fitness instead of staying at EnergyOne.
Finally, I love the gym environment. Being around others who are working hard motivates me more than exercising alone at home. While cheaper options like Active SG exist, their popularity means the gyms are always crowded, and I wouldn’t be able to complete my sessions as effectively as in other gyms.
This is still a significant purchase, but what I want to say is: it’s okay to make such decisions if you’ve done your research, calculated the numbers carefully, and most importantly, have no pending bills and sufficient savings.

When it comes to investing in a gym membership, many people hesitate due to the perceived high costs and commitment involved. From personal experience, shifting to a membership like Anytime Fitness after careful evaluation offered not just financial savings but also a boost in workout consistency. One key aspect is analyzing your fitness habits realistically—committing to regular visits helps justify the monthly fee. I also found that the gym environment plays an indispensable role in sustaining motivation. Unlike crowded public gyms, choosing a less congested and well-maintained facility like Anytime Fitness made it easier to complete my workouts without distractions. This focus contributed significantly to my fitness progress and overall wellbeing. Managing finances prudently beforehand is crucial. By ensuring no pending bills and having ample savings, I made the decision with confidence and peace of mind. This approach reflects mindful spending rather than impulsive buying. Incorporating a gym membership into your budget is doable when paired with consistent savings and investments, making it a sustainable lifestyle choice. Additionally, using tools like Google Sheets to track expenses and savings can clarify whether switching gyms will actually save money over time, just as I experienced with a calculated $1 saving per visit. This methodical approach to financial planning empowers you to make an informed decision tailored to your personal situation. Overall, a gym membership can be a valuable investment in your health and happiness if approached thoughtfully. Consider your fitness commitment, financial readiness, and the gym environment to find the best match that supports your fitness goals without compromising financial stability.
