PNW beach days are upon us

Oh my gosh, the wait is almost over! I literally cannot wait for those glorious PNW beach days to be back in full swing. There's just something so incredibly special about the Pacific Northwest coast, isn't there? It’s not your typical hot, sunny beach vacation, but that's precisely what makes it so magical and unique. The rugged beauty, the cooler temperatures, and the sheer variety of experiences make PNW beaches stand out. When I think about getting my beach fix, a few spots immediately come to mind that truly capture the essence of PNW beaches. First up, of course, is the iconic Cannon Beach in Oregon. You simply can't visit without being awestruck by Haystack Rock towering over the sand. It’s a perfect spot for long walks, flying a kite (I’ve even seen kitesurfing kites against that stunning blue sky!), and, my personal favorite, tide pooling! When the tide goes out, you can discover a whole new world of marine life, like those vibrant reddish-brown starfish clinging to the wet, rocky surfaces covered in barnacles and seaweed. It’s truly an unforgettable experience for all ages. Grabbing a cozy spot on the sand with a picnic – maybe even a pepperoni pizza in a box and a refreshing drink – watching the waves roll in is pure bliss. It's a place where memories are made, whether you're building sandcastles or just enjoying the breathtaking views. Then there's the more rugged, adventurous side of the PNW, embodied perfectly by Shi-Shi Beach in Olympic National Park. This isn't a casual stroll; it requires a bit of a hike, but trust me, the reward is incredible. The moment you step onto that expansive, wild sandy beach, surrounded by those dramatic sea stacks and rock formations, some topped with windswept trees, it feels like you've entered another world. It’s often under that characteristic cloudy sky, which only adds to its mystical charm. It’s perfect for exploring, beachcombing for unique treasures, and just soaking in the untamed beauty of the coastline. Remember to plan ahead for permits and access, as its remote nature is part of its allure. And for those days when you want a quick escape without a big drive, Carkeek Park in Seattle is a fantastic option. It's a local gem right within the city, offering stunning views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains on a clear day. It’s a great spot for a shorter beach walk, letting the kids play, or just enjoying some fresh sea air and watching the ferries go by. It’s a reminder that even in urban settings, the beauty of the Pacific Northwest is always within reach.
