The tattoo wanted Vs. got

... Read moreGetting a tattoo is such a personal journey, and I’m so excited to share more about how my dream design came to life, especially since so many of you are looking for your own 'wanted tattoo design' inspiration! It all started with this vision of a celestial theme: a beautiful crescent moon, a radiant sunburst, twinkling stars, and three graceful birds soaring alongside. I spent ages looking at different styles and references to truly nail down what I *wanted*. My biggest tip for anyone starting this process is to create a mood board – it helps so much in visualizing your perfect design! Think about what emotions or stories you want your tattoo to tell. For me, the moon represented cycles and femininity, the sunburst energy and light, and the birds, freedom and connection. Combining these elements felt incredibly meaningful. Once I had a solid idea, finding the right artist was key. I researched artists known for fine line work and celestial themes through Instagram and local tattoo shop portfolios. When I had my consultation, I showed them my sketch and all my reference photos. Don't be shy about explaining every detail of your 'wanted design' – the artist is there to bring your vision to life. We discussed placement – my side torso felt right for this flowing design, allowing enough space for the elements to breathe – and what elements were most important to me. For instance, I really wanted the moon and sunburst to feel balanced and the three birds to have a sense of dynamic movement, not just static shapes. We also talked about shading and line weight to give it depth. We went through a few iterations of the sketch, refining the stars to ensure they didn't look too busy and making sure the crescent moon had just the right elegant curve. Seeing that final sketch of my wanted tattoo design was such an exciting moment – it was exactly what I had pictured in my head! On the day of the appointment, the artist placed the stencil, and we adjusted it together until it sat perfectly on my skin. This step is crucial; once it's on, it's on! The actual tattooing process began, and the pain, as I mentioned, was about a 5/10 for me – totally manageable, especially for a larger piece on the side. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different, but honestly, focusing on the beautiful art being created helps a lot, as does deep breathing! Aftercare is super important to make sure your 'wanted design' heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. I followed my artist's instructions religiously: gentle washing twice a day with antibacterial soap, applying thin layers of unscented lotion, and keeping it out of direct sunlight. Avoiding tight clothing that could rub against it was also key. It’s a commitment for the first few weeks, but totally worth it to preserve the intricate details of the sunburst, stars, and those lovely birds. If you're dreaming of your own unique ink, whether it's a celestial scene like mine or something completely different, take your time with the design process, find an artist whose style you love and aligns with your vision, and don't compromise on making your 'wanted design' truly yours. Happy inking, and I hope this helps you on your tattoo journey!

I actually love the fact that my artist gave me a bigger heart (because I have a big heart lol… no?) This was my first tattoo - on the face is crazy, right? I put it on my sideburn so I can discreetly cover it with edges or a circle bandaid. If you’re wondering what my current career path is, i
