Our 4th of July weekend ✨🇺🇸

Wow, what an incredible 4th of July weekend we just wrapped up! Every year, I try to make our celebration extra special, and this year, it was all about the games. If you're anything like me, you love creating lasting memories with friends and family, and nothing brings people together quite like some friendly competition and belly laughs. This year, we really leaned into some classic and new Fourth of July games, and I can't wait to share our favorites to help you plan your next patriotic bash! First up, you can't go wrong with classic backyard games. We set up a cornhole tournament that got surprisingly competitive – even Grandma joined in! It’s super easy to play and perfect for all ages. Another hit was our giant Jenga set; watching it tumble always gets a huge reaction. For something a bit more active, we organized a three-legged race and a good old-fashioned potato sack race. The trick? Make sure you have enough space and maybe some soft grass for those inevitable tumbles! These simple games are fantastic icebreakers and get everyone moving before the BBQ feast. When the summer sun really heats up, water games are an absolute must. We broke out the water balloons, and a huge water balloon toss quickly became the highlight for the younger crowd (and some of the adults too, I admit!). If you want to keep it simple, a sprinkler limbo is hilarious – just adjust the sprinkler height and see who can get under it. Another fun idea is squirt gun tag; it’s a great way to cool down and get some energy out. Just remember to have plenty of towels on hand! For the little firecrackers in your group, we found that themed games work wonders. I put together a 'Patriotic Scavenger Hunt' where kids had to find items like red, white, and blue ribbons, mini flags, and sparklers (kept safely by adults, of course!). We also had a 'Decorate Your Own Firecracker' station with craft supplies, which kept them happily busy for ages. Simple activities like 'Pin the Star on the Flag' are also big hits and easy to set up. As the evening approached and the anticipation for fireworks grew, we switched to some glow-in-the-dark games. A glow-stick ring toss was surprisingly fun, and we even tried some simple sparkler art – drawing shapes and letters in the air with sparklers (always with adult supervision and a bucket of water nearby!). These twilight activities created a magical atmosphere as we waited for the grand finale. It truly rounded out our 4th of July weekend perfectly. A few quick tips from my experience: have small, inexpensive prizes for winners (think candy or small toys), make sure you have plenty of water available for everyone, and most importantly, encourage participation over competition. The goal is to have fun and make memories!
