Core Workout- Define Your Abs
When people ask me how do I get so much definition with my abs I tell them to treat their abs like any other muscle group. If you want to grow your bicep you lift weights so why not treat your abs the same. I know there are a few variable such as, body fat, nutrition, bloat, water retention and the list goes on that can impact your abs showing. However, using weights and engaging the core is how you start to carve out those abs. I normally do 25 reps 3 rounds each exercise! #GetFitwithLJ #LetsGo
Hey everyone! So many of you ask about my ab definition, and while my main workout is a game-changer, I want to share a bit more about what truly makes a difference in getting those sculpted abs. It's not just about the weights; it’s about consistency, proper form, and understanding your body. When I talk about treating your abs like any other muscle, I mean progressive overload. Just like you wouldn't lift the same bicep weight forever, you need to challenge your core. Start with a light dumbbell or plate for exercises like Weighted Sit-Ups and slowly increase as you get stronger. For Weighted Russian Twists, focus on twisting from your core, not just swinging your arms. Keeping your feet off the ground increases the intensity, but only if you can maintain good form! Let's dive into a few more of my favorite weighted movements that really target different parts of the core. Weighted Mod V-up: This one is a killer for the entire core. Instead of just crunching, you're engaging both your upper and lower abs simultaneously. Hold a small weight (like a medicine ball or dumbbell) and extend your arms and legs, then bring them together in a controlled 'V' shape. Remember to exhale as you contract! Weighted Knee to Toe (or Weighted Toe Touches): These are fantastic for targeting the upper abs and improving core stability. Lie on your back, extend your legs straight up, and hold a small weight above your chest. Reach up towards your toes, lifting your shoulder blades off the floor. The weight adds resistance, making your abs work harder through a fuller range of motion. Weighted In and Outs: For a dynamic lower ab and hip flexor challenge, these are perfect. Sit on the floor, lean back slightly, and hold a weight against your chest. Extend your legs out, then pull your knees into your chest. This really fires up the lower part of your rectus abdominis. Beyond the exercises, nutrition plays a monumental role. You can do all the Weighted Sit-Ups and Weighted Layouts in the world, but if your diet isn't dialed in, those abs will stay hidden. I focus on lean proteins, complex carbs, and healthy fats. Cutting back on processed foods and sugary drinks made a huge difference for me. And hydration! Drinking plenty of water helps with bloat and water retention, which are often overlooked factors in ab visibility. Finally, don't forget recovery. Your abs, like any other muscle, need time to repair and grow. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep, and don't train your abs intensely every single day. A good general guideline is 2-3 times a week, allowing a day or two of rest in between. Listen to your body, stay consistent, and you'll be well on your way to a stronger, more defined core!
